Hannah Montana's Miley Cyrus Celebrates Her Sweet 16 at Disneyland With Friends and Fans

Event Celebrates Youth Volunteers With $1 Million Disney Gift

ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 5 - Fireworks will sparkle in the night sky at Disneyland as more than 5,000 party guests sing "Happy Birthday" to Disney star Miley Cyrus tonight at "Miley's Sweet 16 - Share the Celebration," a music-filled bash kicking off Disney's "What Will You Celebrate?" invitation to guests of all ages.
 

Miley, star of the wildly popular Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, will celebrate her milestone birthday with family, friends, fans and special guests from Youth Service America, an organization that shares her passion for promoting youth volunteerism.
 

In one of the evening's big highlights, Disney CEO Bob Iger will present a special gift of $1 million to Youth Service America on behalf of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Disney has worked with YSA since 2004, providing "Disney Minnie Grants" to support youth-led community service projects that engage young people between the ages of five to 14 from around the world.
 

"On behalf of everyone at Disney, I'm happy to wish Miley a very happy birthday and celebrate this special occasion with a donation to Youth Service America," Iger said. "We're delighted to have Miley join in Disney's great legacy of giving back through volunteerism while encouraging kids everywhere to do the same."
 

Miley will arrive at the Disneyland bash on a purple carpet (her favorite color), joined by pals and her fellow Disney Channel stars.
 

"I always love coming to Disneyland but celebrating my birthday here with my family, friends and the kids from YSA is really awesome!," Miley said. "This is a night I'll never forget."
 

Guests of the "Sweet 16" party will celebrate like rock stars alongside Miley and other celebrities who are expected to attend, including actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, actor Steve Carell, super model Cindy Crawford and "Dancing with the Stars" performers such as Cristian De La Fuente. The party will come to life for fans in a big way as the world's most popular teenager rocks the Rivers of America, singing four of her popular songs as well as a duet with her star father Billy Ray Cyrus. The Hollywood Records musical artist will dazzle the crowd by boarding a floating stage to cross over to the banks of the river, getting up close with her fans.
 

Miley also invited 10 "Service Stars" from Youth Service America to the party to honor their extraordinary volunteer service. They will join Miley and her fans for the fun in Disneyland park, riding favorite attractions such as Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion, watching a "Stars in Cars" celebrity cavalcade, and playing at the party zones, including Rock Out Stage and Hannah Montana Makeover Zone.
 

The gala will end with a spectacular farewell in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, featuring Miley, her father Billy Ray and a beautiful birthday cake. Everyone will get to smile for a commemorative photo and sing "Happy Birthday." Just as Miley makes a wish and prepares to blow out the birthday candles, the sky will light up with a glitzy fireworks display set to the Hannah Montana smash hit, "Best of Both Worlds."
 

Beginning in 2009, guests at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida are invited to bring their own celebrations to life at Disney theme parks. VIENNA, Va., July 7- Disney On Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy takes flight this fall as Feld Entertainment's newest ice spectacular, featuring four fun-filled classic and current Disney stories. Set to launch on a 70 city, two-year tour in August 2008, Worlds of Fantasy showcases beloved characters from Disney/Pixar's Cars, Disney's The Lion King and The Little Mermaid, as well as a live debut of the magical cast of new Fairies from the highly anticipated October 28th DVD and Blu-ray(TM) release of Walt Disney Pictures Tinker Bell.
 

In a captivating "fairy tale" segment, audiences will enter into the wondrous world of Pixie Hollow and meet the Disney Fairies from Tinker Bell. The entire ice floor will transform into springtime, as the fairies' magical role in the mysteries of nature is finally revealed. For the tour's first nine cities, Worlds of Fantasy performs before the movie releases in the U.S., serving as a sneak preview of the enchantment to come.

NASA LAUNCHES NEW EDUCATION INITIATIVE WITH DISNEY PARKS AND BUZZ
 LIGHTYEAR

WASHINGTON -- As seven, well-trained astronauts begin an important
mission to the International Space Station on Saturday, May 31, one
toy astronaut, Buzz Lightyear, will begin a journey to help educate
children across the country.

The liftoff of space shuttle Discovery kicks off a new education
initiative between NASA and Disney Parks. A 12-inch-tall Buzz
Lightyear action figure will be carried aboard the shuttle as part of
the partnership to encourage students to pursue studies in science,
technology and mathematics, one of NASA's main educational goals.

Disney's Youth Educational Series and NASA have developed an online
program known as the Space Ranger Education Series. It includes fun
educational games for students, as well as materials for educators to
download and integrate into their classroom curriculum.

"NASA is excited to help students understand the science and
engineering currently underway on the International Space Station,"
said Joyce Winterton, NASA assistant administrator for Education.
"The educational games and resources from this partnership will allow
students to explore the science and math behind space exploration
with a beloved character."

Beginning Saturday, May 31, the online games featuring Buzz Lightyear
will be available by visiting NASA's homepage and clicking on the box

The five educational games are:

"Mission Match Up: Create a Game" -- Match the International Space
Station partner countries to space facts
"Connect it! Flight Path" -- Attach the Kibo laboratory to the
International Space Station using a sequence of commands
"Load the Shuttle" -- Fill the shuttle with cargo to a certain mass
"I Spy: Reflections from Space" -- Find everyday objects on the
International Space Station that were built on NASA technology
"Toys in Space" -- Navigate Buzz Lightyear to different toys to see a
movie on how they behave in space

Since 1985, NASA's Toys in Space project has used toys flown aboard
the shuttle and the International Space Station to help children
learn science and mathematics. Scientific and mathematical principles
make these toys work. For example, wind-up toys convert stored
potential energy in their springs into kinetic energy as the springs
unwind. Gravity often plays an important role in the actions of toys,
but how would the same toys function in an environment where the
effects of gravity are not felt? Only NASA can provide the settings,
so students can discover the answer to questions like these.

"We are thrilled that Buzz's lifelong dream of space travel finally
will come true thanks to NASA," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt
Disney Parks and Resorts. "This launch fulfills his dream, and we
hope it will inspire countless children to stay interested in science
and believe in their own dreams."

The beginning of Buzz's space mission coincides with the opening of
"Toy Story Mania!," a new 4-D interactive attraction, on May 31 at
Walt Disney World, Fla., and on June 17 at Disneyland Resort, Calif.

Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts Honor Selected Winners with a Grand Red-Carpet Entrance and Enchanted Evening at Disneyland Resort in Southern California

ANAHEIM, Calif., April 25 -- Pretty as princesses, 15 special young ladies from across the United States and Puerto Rico celebrated a Dream- Come-True Quinceanera on Thursday at Disneyland Resort, with a grand red- carpet entrance, an enchanting ceremony in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle and a pixie-dusted dinner party with family and friends. Royal and resplendent, these lucky girls marked their cultural milestone with a dash of Disney magic, as part of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration.
 

A tradition in the Latin community, a Quinceanera is a young woman's celebration of her 15th birthday, which marks the transition from a child to a young woman. It is commemorated in a way that distinguishes it from her other birthdays.
 

The royal evening ceremony at Disneyland Resort was filled with opulence, pageantry and tradition. It began with a dream-come-true moment for any teenage girl -- a celebrity escort along a red carpet that led to the famous Sleeping Beauty Castle. The stellar lineup of stars included Cristina Saralegui, host of "The Cristina Show;" Andy Garcia, acclaimed actor and producer; pop singer Frankie J; actor-dancer Cristian De La Fuente of "Dancing with the Stars" and others.
 

In the castle forecourt, each birthday girl was greeted by Disney characters and prepared for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. Each young lady, elegant and enchanting in her ball gown, danced a special waltz with her father, stepped from her flat shoes into Cinderella-like glass slippers and received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from her mother.
 

Following the official ceremony in the Castle Forecourt, each of the princesses joined her special guests at a private dinner party in Fantasyland Theater. The unforgettable party included the traditional Quinceanera cutting of the cake and doll ceremony, two important symbols of the transition from childhood to adulthood.
 

The magic began on Tuesday when the girls arrived, ready to prepare for the grand gala with dress fittings, rehearsals, a princess etiquette seminar, an ice cream social at the Disneyland Dream Suite and plenty of photo opportunities. After two days of fun, bonding and magical anticipation, they were ready for the spotlight and the delightful Quinceanera celebration.
 

The girls are from California, Florida, Arizona, New York, Texas, Illinois and Puerto Rico. Amethyst Lisa Cristina Martinez of Miami imagined this day for weeks and said, "Dreams aren't impossible." Kassandra Hernandez of Sacramento, Ca., was thrilled to celebrate her coming-of-age with family, a welcome joy after several recent family hardships. And Brenda Prado of Fresno, Ca., said her parents, who are farm workers, were ecstatic that their daughter could enjoy a magical Quinceanera celebration.
 

The bright lights will keep shining on these lucky young ladies, as their enchanting Disneyland Quinceanera is scheduled to be featured in a one-hour television special on Univision network's "El Show de Cristina," (The Cristina Show). More than 40 international broadcast and news outlets covered the festivities.
 

To make these dreams come true, Disney Parks launched a national search for prospective princesses in conjunction with selected Univision television news affiliates, Univision.com, Coca-Cola, David's Bridal and "The Cristina Show." Together, they found these 15 special girls to celebrate their magical Quinceaneras at Disneyland Resort.
 

All eligible princesses-to-be submitted essays explaining why they wanted to have their coming-of-age celebrations at "The Happiest Place on Earth."
 

To ensure each Quinceanera girl was dressed as a true "belle of the ball," David's Bridal, the nation's leading bridal retailer, provided each of the 15 girls with a ball gown, tiara and shoes. Southwest Airlines provided flights for each young lady and up to seven guests to attend the sparkling soiree. Hewlett-Packard donated limited-edition entertainment notebook PCs to each Quinceanera princess to help her pursue her educational goals and stay connected with family and friends. Kodak provided specially created Quinceanera-themed cameras so that each girl could capture her unique and thrilling memories.

Disney's New Musical, THE LITTLE MERMAID Opened January 10

- SHOW DAZZLES AUDIENCE AND CRITICS ALIKE TO MAKE A SPLASH ON BROADWAY! -

-- Last night, the curtain went up at the Lunt-Fontanne (205 West 46th Street) for Broadway's most-anticipated new musical, THE LITTLE MERMAID, presented by Disney Theatrical Productions. The stage production is based on the beloved Disney film and the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. (THE LITTLE MERMAID began performances on Broadway, Saturday, November 3, 2007, after selling-out its seven-week, pre-Broadway engagement at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.)

The glimmering opening night audience included guests Rosie O' Donnell, Kathie Lee & Frank Gifford, Joel Grey, Patricia Clarkson, Mario Cantone, Jacob Young and the original character voices from the beloved animated film, Jodi Benson and Pat Carroll (Ariel and Ursula respectively), all of whom leapt to their feet as the cast delivered show-stopping performances, including the signature number "Under the Sea." But, it was musical theater aficionado O'Donnell who led the uproarious, emotional standing ovation as Denver-native Sierra Boggess, in her Broadway debut as "Ariel," and Sherie Rene Scott as "Ursula" took their bows, along with the rest of the Broadway cast. They join the roster of recent celebrity visitors at THE LITTLE MERMAID including Christie Brinkley, Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick, Teri Hatcher, Vanessa Williams, Cameron Mathison, Emily Osment and Renee Fleming, all of whom visited back stage at the show and signed the illustrious "Wave of Fame" wall.

Robert Iger (Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company), Dick Cook (Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios) and Executive Producer Thomas Schumacher (President, Disney Theatrical Productions), treated their cast, crew, creative team and guests to a very special Mermaid celebration at New York's famed Roseland Ballroom.

Boggess, 25, was lucky enough to be made "princess" twice in one night, draped in vintage Verdura jewels and a satin, oyster-colored Calvin Klein gown. Boggess lived the ultimate fairy tale dream as "Ariel" became the latest Disney princess to firmly plant her "feet" on Broadway.

The show's stars including Sherie Rene Scott (Ursula), Sean Palmer (Prince Eric), Norm Lewis (King Triton), Tituss Burgess (Sebastian), Eddie Korbich (Scuttle), Jonathan Freeman (Grimsby), Derrick Baskin (Jetsam), Tyler Maynard (Flotsam), all celebrated with special Mer-tini themed-cocktails, and dined under draped blue canopies, evoking the feeling of an underwater lair.

Schumacher warmly thanked his cast, creative team and collaborators, including composer Alan Menken, director Francesca Zambello, playwright Doug Wright and choreographer Stephen Mear for helping to create Broadway history.

The production had even more reason to celebrate as THE LITTLE MERMAID was invited to perform two classic numbers on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday, January 11: star Boggess singing the indelible ballad "Part of Your World," and Tituss Burgess leading the cast in the Academy Award-winning song "Under the Sea."

ABOUT THE SHOW

THE LITTLE MERMAID takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she's the girl with the perfect voice.

The Broadway score of THE LITTLE MERMAID features the classic songs: "Part of Your World," "Kiss the Girl" and the Academy Award(R)-winning Best Original Song, "Under the Sea," composed by eight-time Academy Award(R) winner Alan Menken and his longtime collaborator, the late Howard Ashman, as well as 10 new songs by Mr. Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. The book for the new musical is by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award(R)-winning playwright Doug Wright. Disney's High School Musical 2 World Premiere Set for Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort Tuesday, August 14

-- The biggest splash of the summer, the world premiere of Disney Channel's highly-anticipated High School Musical 2, will be hosted at AMC Theatres in Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort on Tuesday, August 14.

It will be the latest highlight of the ongoing Year of a Million Dreams celebration at the Resort, and the newest chapter in the unparalleled worldwide popularity of High School Musical. The phenomenon has even extended into Disney's California Adventure, where High School Musical has jumped out into the park as a live show.

Stars of the movie, along with director-choreographer Kenny Ortega and other celebrity guests will walk the carpet in Downtown Disney prior to the 6:00pm screening. Following the Downtown Disney festivities, they will attend an invitation-only poolside party at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. High School Musical 2 follows other high-profile premieres hosted at the Disneyland Resort, including all three Pirates of the Caribbean films. This will mark the first time a movie made especially for Disney Channel has been premiered at the Resort.

And inspired by the sequel, a brand new High School Musical 2: School's Out! show will spring to life in Disney's California Adventure beginning Saturday, August 18.

In the contemporary movie musical High School Musical 2, the Wildcats are back. The Walt Disney Studios Signs Exclusive Deal With Spider-Man's Legendary Creator Stan Lee

The Walt Disney Studios has entered into an exclusive multi-year first look deal with "Spider-Man" creator and producer Stan Lee and his production company POW! Entertainment, it was announced by Dick Cook, chairman, The Walt Disney Studios.
 

Under the terms of the agreement, Lee and his production company will develop and produce all forms of entertainment.
 

"As the father of such renowned comic book heroes as Spider-Man, The Hulk, X-Men among others, Stan is considered one of the most creative and inventive forces in the industry today. His innate talent of tapping into the human qualities of his super hero characters has certainly struck a chord with generations of audiences and readers around the world," stated Cook in making the announcement.
