D-Link, the end-to-end
networking solutions provider for consumer and business, today introduced an
easy-to-use Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit that taps into existing coaxial wiring
throughout the home, delivering fast and stable connections for extending a
network to devices at the entertainment system and to
multiple rooms without interrupting cable service.
The D-Link Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit (DXN-221), on display at the Consumer
Electronics Show this week at the Las Vegas Convention Center, is ideally suited
for adding bandwidth-demanding applications such as high-definition (HD) media
streaming, music sharing and online multi-player gaming to the home network. It
comes with two adapters, each of which includes an Ethernet port as well as a
Coaxial F-type connector for bridging the two adapters together. The adapters
may also be purchased individually (DXN-220).
Users can easily connect the D-Link Coax Ethernet Adapter to their existing
router and then to an available coaxial outlet in the home, enabling network and
Internet access to multiple rooms. A second adapter is added in another room to
connect Ethernet-enabled devices like PCs and media players. The DXN-221 may be
used in rooms with
multiple devices by connecting a switch to the adapter to connect additional
devices.
In a typical scenario, a single adapter comes from the home network router via
an Ethernet cable and then connects to a nearby coaxial cable. The second
adapter can then
be placed anywhere in the home where there is another coaxial cable which can
then plug into an Ethernet-ready device or network switch for connecting
multiple devices.
The technology also works as a point-to-multipoint network which enables placing
multiple adapters throughout the home for connections in any room with a coaxial
outlet.
The Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit is an ideal solution for home networking requiring
no new in-home wiring. Pairing the device with existing coaxial cabling in the
home can
extend the network to the home entertainment center where more devices are now
network-capable such as gaming consoles, digital video recorders (DVR), and
media
players.
"With simplified user setup, coaxial networking support, the ability to coexist
with other coaxial devices, and fast networking speeds, our Coax Ethernet
Adapter Kit delivers a simplified networking solution that makes it easy for
consumers to enjoy the benefits of a digital home designed for high-definition
media streaming, online gaming
and other emerging applications," said AJ Wang, chief technical officer for
D-Link "The technology is fast and a natural complement to our popular
networking solutions for
moving data into areas of a home where it may be difficult to run a cable or
achieve a strong Wi-Fi signal."
The D-Link Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit is Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA)
certified and therefore designed to coexist with other technologies already
being distributed in the home. MoCA certified products are able to seamlessly
deliver HDTV and DVD quality digital entertainment and high-speed data without
interference or latency. The device operates in the 800-1500MHz range, so there
is no interference with other products such as cable TV transmissions.
Price and Availability
The D-Link Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit DXN-221 will be available in Q1 2009 from
D-Link's network of retail outlets and will be available from D-Link's extensive
network of e-tail shops with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $199.99.
Individual adapters (DXN-220) are available with a MSRP of $109.99.

Xamance Launches Xambox Paper Management Technology At CES 2009
Company Simplifies Paper Management With Chaotic Filing Technology
LAS VEGAS -
January CES 2009 - The new standard in premium headphones, the HD 800
from Sennheiser, offers an extraordinarily brilliant sound image and stunning
spatiality. Their dynamic, completely open-back design combines innovative
technology with carefully selected materials and the pinnacle of German
workmanship. The result is a level of performance, quality and attention to
detail that is clearly audible. The key components of the HD 800 are a
completely new type of transducer and the innovative ear cup design. In total,
this new sound sensation features no less than three distinguished patents.
Patented technology: transducer with a ring
design
The HD 800 sets new
standards with its innovative transducer technology. Measuring 56 mm, the
transducer in the HD 800 is the largest that can currently be found in a dynamic
head-phone. In simple terms: the more transducer surface area that vibrates, the
purer the headphone sounds at low frequencies. However, transducers with a large
surface area have the disadvantage that, at high frequencies, undesired
resonances occur at the diaphragm, resulting in distortions in sound
reproduction. The new design principle of the HD 800 resolves this dilemma. "Sennheiser's
patented ring design for the diaphragm minimises the distortion of the sound
image, even with a transducer as large as 56 mm," explained Axel Grell,
acoustics developer at Sennheiser. The result is impressive: the HD 800 has
brilliant trebles, precise bass reproduction and an exceptionally clear sound
image. The frequency response is an unprecedented 6 to 51,000 Hertz.
Natural listening experience: the new ear cup
design
Audio recordings do not become a true
listening experience until we they are perceived with spatial extension - as if
we were sitting in a concert hall or listening to a live jazz session. The new
HD 800 offers precisely such a sound experience. "Today, most music is
made to be reproduced by
two loudspeakers, which form an equal-sided triangle together with the listener.
This results in a sound field close to the ears that is at a slight angle to the
head," explained Axel Grell. This causes the sound to be reflected into the ear
canal with slight time differences. The HD 800 simulates this effect by
directing the sound wave to the ear at an angle of 45 degrees. No other
manufacturer comes as close as Sennheiser to achieving a spatial listening
experience with headphones.
Wearing comfort: top-quality materials and
finish
Their circumaural ear cups fit comfortably around the ears without aggressive
lateral pressure for hours of music enjoyment. The material used for the ear
pads is Japanese Alcantara, which is particularly friendly to the skin and easy
to clean. All other materials have also been carefully selected - not least to
optimally support the outstanding acoustical properties of the HD 800. "We
allowed ourselves a lot of time to perfect the HD 800," said Maurice Quarré,
Product Manager Home Audio at Sennheiser. "Not only to develop the technical
intricacies but also to select the finest materials to make it perfect in every
detail." As a result, the HD 800 has an exterior design that perfectly reflects
its outstanding sound quality: a puristic design language and a black/silver
finish give the headphones a look of exclusive elegance, turning them into a
true designer object. And all this is 'Made in Germany': the HD 800 was
developed and designed at Sennheiser's corporate headquarters in Wedemark,
Germany. The new headphones will be produced there too - with the usual
meticulous attention to detail.

VIP 'white glove' service to every HT5000E customer. Within two weeks of the
projector's installation, the dealer will coordinate a site visit from a SIM2
technician, who will certify the installation and make any final technical
adjustments as required to calibrate the projector precisely to the customer's
own system requirements.
"The HT5000E is a true state-of-the-art product. We feel that it is
absolutely necessary that every owner feels secure in the knowledge that they
have not only purchased the best product, but that the performance has been
personally certified for each particular application. This personal service
truly separates SIM2 from the competition." said Charlie Boornazian, SIM2 USA's
Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "This attention to detail is unmatched in
the industry, consolidating SIM2's position as the leader in large screen high
quality home theater projection."
The finest quality precision glass optics are used throughout the light engine
of the HT5000E. The clarity, color-uniformity and edge-to-edge focus
capabilities of these specialized optical components are vital to the process of
producing the breathtaking on-screen images. SIM2 offers six high quality lens
options that make the HT5000E suitable for almost any home theater installation.

Thinking About Sex: Thought-provoking discussion on gender and design to be held at CES in Las Vegas
| Women designers challenge consumer electronics industry to get in touch with their 'feminine side' | |
| Manufacturers missing big business opportunity by not addressing women's unique technology needs and desires | |
| No more "shrink and pink" – new strategies on designing for women while creating products that appeal to a wide audience | |
| High resolution image available here |
New York, US – 12th December, 2008 – The
Femme Den of
Smart Design, one of
the world's leading consumer product design firms, will be presenting their
ground-breaking research on gender and design during a panel discussion at the
2009 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Friday 9th January. Two
female designers, Erica Eden and Agnete Enga, will be joined by Linda Tischler,
Senior Writer at Fast Company, to present a new way of thinking about design
from a woman’s perspective. The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA),
through their ongoing partnership with the Consumer Electronic Association
(CEA), is sponsoring the panel.
According to a recent report by the CEA, only one per cent of women reported
that consumer electronics manufacturers consider their needs. Erica Eden, one of
the founders of the Femme Den, explains: "Women represent the world's third
largest economy, and buy or influence 80 per cent of all purchases of goods and
services. The women's market is a huge business opportunity, but CE companies
aren't connecting with their real needs. We hope to change that."
Based on extensive research with both women and men, the Femme Den has concluded
that the consumer electronics industry needs to get in touch with its feminine
side if it wants to reach the untapped, under-served female audience. For years,
the latest, greatest technologies have driven product design, but that approach
routinely overlooks real-life needs and forces users to adapt to solutions that
may be news, but are not truly 'innovative'. These devices reflect a
male-oriented history of engineering and are overloaded with features and
machine-like styling.
The Femme Den's fundamental premise is that technology needs to serve people,
not the other way around – especially for women. Overwhelmingly, a woman wants
technology to solve her and her families' real problems with easy, flexible, and
well-designed products. They are turned off by products that are feature-rich
but don't accommodate their real needs and fit into their lives in a holistic
way.
Agnete Enga, another founder of Femme Den, says: "The biggest mistake we have
seen is treating women like a special interest group with only post-design
considerations, like colour and finish. We call this the 'shrink it and pink it'
approach – and it's offensive to most women."
But how do you really connect with women? Do solutions inspired by women's needs
satisfy both sexes? Does understanding these needs create more meaningful
products for everyone? How do these insights impact the bottom line? The Femme
Den has developed several key insights – unifying the vision, understanding the
target user and incorporating 'warmer' values – that will help CE companies
connect with women – and maybe everyone else at the same time.
The Femme Den's session is part of the "Issues and Attitudes" track at CES and
will take place on January 9, 2009 at 3:00pm in the South Hall of the Las Vegas
Convention Centre.
CES is the pre-eminent consumer electronics event in the world. The 2009
convention will be held on January 8-11 in Las Vegas, NV. For more information,

Extension and Distribution SystemNew Emerge®
MPX1550 multipoint extenders raise the bar
for wireless video distribution products
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.,
November 10, 2008 – Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ:
AVCT), the recognized leader in managed audio video wireless extension
networking products for professional audio video applications, today announced
the MPX1550 wireless extender. This breakthrough product combines Avocent’s
field-proven MPX1500 wireless video distribution technology with the latest in
WiFi advancements, IEEE802.11n MIMO-based radios, thereby raising the bar for
wireless HD video distribution systems in terms of visual acuity, transmission
distance, and noise immunity.
With the MPX1550 system, deployment of a single stream of media to many displays
can be accomplished in minutes, even under the most challenging of conditions,
with a degree of reliability and quality that rivals a dedicated source device
at each and every display. Unlike multiple source devices, however, video and
audio remain in lockstep across all displays, failure-prone moving parts are
kept to a minimum, and software licensing costs are greatly reduced. Equally
important, all devices in the media network are remotely manageable using the
MPX1550 extender’s onboard Web interface, which is accessible via a dedicated
control LAN interface.
“As the number of public displays continues to mushroom, the ability to
deploy these displays in a rapid yet cost-effective manner has become a key
differentiator for signage network providers,” said Mitch Friend, senior vice
president and general manager of Avocent. “It has also become clear to us that
content requirements differ among various deployments such as retail,
institutional and way-finding signage applications. Characteristics such as
visual acuity, resolution of motion and still images tend to vary. To handle the
most demanding applications, we’ve added the MPX1550 system to our product
offerings. By adding the 802.11n support to our product line, customers are now
able to choose the extender that is best suited for their application.”
Emerge MPX1550 extenders are widely deployed for a variety of professional video applications, such as digital signage – providing panels with live content, entertainment and advertising in retail outlets, theaters, restaurants, airports, gas stations, and other venues. The Emerge MPX1550 extenders offer both wired (over IP) and wireless operation, including distribution of both HD and SD video signals from a single transmitter to a cluster of receivers. The MPX1550 system is uniquely optimized for both full motion video and still images.
The extenders support digital and analog video signals, providing support for a wide range of DVI, HDMI, VGA and component source and display devices. MPX1550 extenders also perform analog to digital conversion as needed to match dissimilar source and display devices. For additional control over source and display devices, the MPX1550 extenders also forward serial and IR signals. Support for HDCP ensures that even protected content can be distributed through signage networks in a secure and compliant manner.
The Emerge MPX1550T wireless
transmitter and Emerge MPX1550R wireless receiver are available this month at a
MSRP of $1,145 each.

Energy® ESW-M6 Mini Subwoofer Scores Massive Attention
Product named CES Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering awards honoree
|
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (November 26, 2008) — As part of
the International CES Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Awards
program, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® and Industrial
Designers Society of America (IDSA) recently recognized the Energy® ESW-M6
mini subwoofer as being among the best designed and engineered products for
2009. According to Energy product manager Ben Burko, the ESW-M6’s small size is deceptive: “Even with the incredibly compact size of the woofers and passive radiators, the deep bass sound from this sub is comparable to much larger units. Plus, it provides placement options that we’ve never offered before.” Read More ... |

Image quality and channel change time and are central to TV service suppliers in today’s competitive market.
With its unique QoE monitoring technology*, Witbe carried out a study of digital SD TV services (via DSL, cable, FTTH, satellite and DTT), looking at 30 operators in 16 countries on 4 continents.
The worldwide video quality for SD services, measured using Witbe VideoMOS algorithms, was 2.9 /5. Asian video quality measured from Taiwan , Hong Kong and Singapore reaches 3.1, the same value as measured on the French market.
Witbe noted important variations between operators but also between technologies. Witbe distinguished amongst these factors:
o Encoding policies: In order to increase the number of eligible customers, Telco’s have to increase the compression ratio of the video, which reduces the quality (increase in blockiness and blur).
o The broadcasting technology: Cable video is usually less pixelated than IPTV as cable experiences less transmission problems (packet loss). DTT video is mostly characterized by frequent frozen images (jerkiness) caused by interferences and weather conditions.
o The maturity of the services tested: services launched recently often have lower availability (black screens, error messages, channel change issues, …) and provide a poorer video quality.
o The decoder performance in terms of stability and quality but also the interoperability issues between CAS, middleware and STB
o The presence of intelligent retransmission mechanisms (eg Cisco VQE) or forward error correction which often improves video quality when there are burst errors on DSL lines.
Another study being carried out by Witbe on High Definition TV services shows that users perceive differently video artefacts. HD picture is usually less blocky and sharper than SD picture. On the other side, HD encoding policies are more sensitive to network issues than SD video. It is important to note that HD programs are not equal: Some broadcasts upscaled in HD show a much higher blur than broadcasts in native HD.
*dedicated to measuring delivered quality of TV services out of the set-top box.
About Witbe
Multi-play usages such as watching TV, using VoD services, making phone calls or accessing the internet via landline or mobile networks have revolutionized the way operators work and their areas of responsibility. To respond to the new challenge of tests and end-to-end service monitoring, since 2000, Witbe has been developing an innovative approach to measuring the actual quality delivered: Quality of Experience monitoring (QoE).
Witbe’s unique technology provides indicators of perceived quality measured by its robots, which continuously reproduce user behaviour. Witbe, thanks to its MOS algorithms qualifying real-time image and sound quality from the STB, has been regarded since 2004 as the reference for IPTV services monitoring. Witbe works with the main operators throughout the whole world: Spain , France , Italy , Poland , Portugal , Switzerland , Netherlands , Austria , Greece , Morocco , the UK , Singapore , Korea and Taiwan amongst others.

CADILLAC PROVOQ FUEL CELL CONCEPT DELIVERS CLEAN, PETROLEUM-FREE PERFORMANCE AND SIGNATURE DESIGN
LAS VEGAS
– Cadillac unveils a new vision for the future of luxury transportation with the innovative Provoq fuel cell concept – a hydrogen fuel cell crossover vehicle that continues GM’s commitment to displace petroleum through advanced technology. The Cadillac Provoq fuel cell concept is the latest example of GM’s groundbreaking E-Flex propulsion system, combining the new fifth-generation fuel cell system and a lithium-ion battery to produce an electrically driven vehicle that uses no petroleum and has no emission other than water. The concept’s fifth-generation fuel cell technology is half the size of its predecessor, yet it has been developed to produce more power and performance.
“Cadillac is a natural fit for GM’s next step in developing the E-Flex platform,” says Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. “Cadillac, at its very essence, is about premium luxury, design and technology, so it’s fitting that Cadillac would be propelled by the most elegant solution. This signals Cadillac’s intent to lead the industry with alternative-fuel technology.”
Fuel-cell variant of the E-Flex system
The concept can drive 300 miles (483 km) on a single fill of hydrogen – with 280 miles (450 km) from hydrogen and 20 miles (32 km) on pure, battery electric energy.
A pair of 10,000 psi (700 bar) composite storage tanks beneath the rear cargo floor hold 13.2 pounds (6 kg) of hydrogen to feed the fuel cell stack, located under the hood. There, hydrogen mixes with oxygen to generate electricity – up to 88 kW continuous power. A lithium-ion battery pack can store up to a total of 9kWh of electrical energy and also provides a peak of 60 kW of power for additional performance.
The electricity generated by the fuel cell is distributed to a 70 kW co-axial drive system for the front wheels and individual, 40 kW wheel hub motors on the rear wheels, giving the Cadillac Provoq
its all-wheel-drive traction and great driving dynamics. Its 0-60 mph (approximately 100 km/h) speed of 8.5 seconds is a more than 30-percent improvement over the previous-generation fuel cell system and with instantaneous torque to the wheels, it feels even faster. Provoq has a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h).“This is a vision of what comes next – a fuel cell electric vehicle that delivers the driving characteristics Cadillac customers want and allowing them to do it without using a single drop of petroleum, while emitting only water vapor,” said Larry Burns, GM vice president for research and development. “This is proof that alternate fuels and advanced technologies create even greater opportunities to satisfy the luxury buyer.”
Key features
With sleek, signature Cadillac bodywork, the Provoq concept redefines luxury crossovers, offering uncompromising passenger and cargo space to match its performance and cruising range. Additional vehicle features include:
Purposefully dynamic design
The Provoq has a sleek, athletic shape that builds on the second generation of Cadillac’s design renaissance, led by the 2008 CTS, with dynamic and purposeful features that support the hydrogen fuel cell powertrain and contribute to the vehicle’s overall efficiency.
“All the people- and cargo-carrying capability customers expect in crossovers and SUVs is available in the Provoq, along with the premium attributes expected in a Cadillac,” said Ed Welburn, vice president, Global Design.
Highlights include:
“From the strong, shield grille and vertical headlamps to the crisp body lines, the Provoq is instantly recognizable as a contemporary Cadillac,” said Hoon Kim, exterior lead designer. “Like the new CTS, it is bold and expressive, but there is enhanced shape between the edges – it’s a new proportion for crossovers, with a fast, almost coupe-like rear.
“Everything about the vehicle reinforces the notion that great style and environmentally conscious transportation can go hand in hand,” said Kim. “We didn’t sacrifice proportion, stance or Cadillac’s iconic design cues; we used them to support the efficiency of the vehicle.
“They are the features customers expect,” he said. “The adaptability of the E-Flex architecture enabled the designers to create a great-looking vehicle, regardless of its alternative-fuel powertrain.”
Kim points to the fender-mounted charge ports as prime example. They allow overnight, plug-in charging that extends the driving range. The ports have a satin-chrome appearance that incorporates an amber light to indicate the system is charging and a green light to indicate when charging is completed.
“The ports are functional, but rather than hide them, they are design elements of the Provoq,” he said. “Sweeping body lines that culminate at the top and bottom edges of the ports suggest forward thrust, even when the vehicle is stationary.”
The vertical, neon-lit taillamps blend style with functionality, too, as their finned shape was designed to make the Provoq as aerodynamically efficient as possible.
Indeed, the Provoq has short overhangs and a sporty ride height that is complemented by large, 21-inch wheels.
The wheels are wrapped in custom Michelin tires incorporating Green-X technology. These low-rolling resistance tires feature a tread pattern that mimics the “H20” notation for water.
The tire designers and engineers at Michelin North America enthusiastically accepted GM’s challenge to create a custom low-rolling resistance tire to complement the energy efficiency and reduced environmental footprint of the Cadillac Provoq. During the past 15 years, the tire maker has developed four generations of Michelin green energy-saving tires, and the team’s no-compromises approach to the project helped reduce the Provoq’s overall fuel consumption without sacrificing road performance, grip and safety.
When used in conjunction with the other energy-efficient solutions featured on the Cadillac Provoq, the benefits of Michelin green energy-saving tires include:
Uncompromising interior
Like the exterior, the Provoq’s interior blends style with function. It seats five and incorporates the comfort, convenience and infotainment features Cadillac customers seek. Most importantly, the fuel cell powertrain does not intrude on passenger or cargo room.
The hydrogen fuel tanks are mounted beneath the cargo floor, with the storage batteries located at the center of the chassis. The fuel cell stack is located under the hood, giving the Provoq the interior layout of a conventional crossover – including a full cargo area and a 60/40-split folding rear seat.
“The interior is roomy, well-equipped and offers the space people want in a crossover,” said Matt Erdey, interior lead designer. “There are no compromises inside the Provoq to accommodate the fuel cell powertrain and fuel tanks – a factor that proves the technology and real-world feasibility are growing closer together.”
There may not be compromising reminders of the powertrain in the interior, but the Provoq carries the instantly identifiable hallmarks of a contemporary Cadillac interior, with an expressive, well-crafted design.
“It picks up the cues, refinement and attention to detail of the new CTS and takes them to the next level,” said Erdey. “A contrasting color scheme, extensive use of ambient lighting technology and elements such as cut-and-sewn, hand-wrapped leather with French seams are elements seen in current Cadillac models, but they are amplified in the Provoq. “
The interior has a contrasting, dark gray and light gray color scheme, with chrome and satin-chrome accents throughout. Ambient lighting extends across the instrument panel and into the door panels, as well as the foot wells, sills and under the seats.
A unique instrument cluster with large, reconfigurable LCD displays offers a multitude of vehicle information readouts, including fuel cell information and vehicle performance. Like the CTS, the Provoq has a prominent center stack that houses the audio and climate systems, as well as a navigation system that rises out of the top of the instrument panel. Also like the CTS, there is an integrated hard drive that stores navigation maps, thousands of songs and more.
Between the front bucket seats is a large center console with a fully enclosed storage compartment that is home to ports for USB-connected devices and other electronics. The console also has a cell phone holder with built-in Bluetooth and inductive charging. The compact shifting mechanism on the console uses shift-by-wire technology to engage the gears, resulting in more storage space within the console.
A variety of recycled and recyclable materials were used, as well. Highlights include:
The earth-friendly interior components blend seamlessly with the more conventional materials inside the Provoq, enhancing the vehicle’s integrated, customer-focused environment. The same goes for the cargo area, which features an auxiliary power outlet and a load floor that is level with the hatch opening.
“The integration of the features and technology is remarkable,” said Erdey. “If you didn’t know there was a hydrogen fuel cell stack under the hood, you’d never know it was anything but a roomy, functional crossover.”

Football Hall of Famers Set Guinness World Record at CES
Saturday, Jan 6
Written by Notaspringchick
Today we journeyed to CES from Los Angeles through the winter storm. Somehow managing to miss either just prior, after or beside rainstorms we arrived in record time with light traffic. Arriving at the Wyndham we were able to check-in to our room and begin setting up our CES office hours earlier than expected.
Next stop, the press room at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Although we had already received our press badges via U.S. mail, it’s important to get your badge holders and CES press bag before going to any press conferences and most importantly today, CES Unveiled.
Promoted as the hottest product and technologies, companies honored with Innovations Design and Engineering awards and product debuts are available for press to see, review and discuss with company representatives. In several hours you have an overview of the Consumer Electronics Show.
The first year I attended CES Unveiled I was amazed, the second less so, and the third more so. Most importantly, it allows you to see many of the Innovations award winners in a few hours. After waiting through the winding line, we finally entered the ballroom to warnings of “Go to the back of the room.”
One of my favorites, is the marine. In a holiday season with navigation hitting more hot spots than high def, I have discovered the only navigation system that lets you know which intersections have speed and red light cameras, Cobra. Yes, it’s the same Cobra associated with radar detectors.
Head buzzing, for now, the others will have to wait as I’m reviewing tomorrow’s day of press events. To bed, with a bit of sleep eye for a busy week ahead.

European Environmental Innovation Comes to U.S. With Iqua Solar-Powered Bluetooth Headset
After Fall Launch in Europe Finnish Pioneers of Energy-Saving Innovation To Showcase Headset at CES
OAK PARK, California, January 4Iqua Ltd., the innovation leader in mobile
communication accessories, today announced the arrival of the Iqua SUN (BHS-603)
solar-powered Bluetooth wireless headset in the U.S. Following its successful
launch in Europe last year, the Iqua SUN will have its debut at next week's 2008
CES in Las Vegas and will hit U.S. store shelves and online retail sites in
January.
Based on one of the top-selling headsets in Europe, the Iqua Vogue, the
stylish new Iqua SUN is small and lightweight. Even though it measures less than
two inches and weighs under an ounce, it incorporates a photovoltaic cell that
uses any available light - outdoors and indoors - to extend the talk and standby
times of the headset.
"The Iqua SUN is the first of its kind, and the response, around the globe
has been very positive, both in terms of environmental innovation and solid
performance," said Iqua's CEO, Juha Reima. "Unfortunately, we've only been able
to supply the European market until now. We've recently added capacity in order
to meet the strong demand in Europe and support the introduction of the product
in other markets including North America."
Selected as a CES "Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Award" honoree,
the Iqua SUN delivers up to 12 hours of talk time depending on available light
conditions and standby time can be infinite, based on available light.
Multifunction and volume control buttons enable Iqua SUN users to
conveniently activate voice dialing; answer, mute, end, and reject calls; switch
between multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices; redial the last number; and switch
calls between the phone and the headset. And with crystal clear sound and
superior connectivity, the headset gives users the freedom to roam up to 32-feet
away during VoIP and mobile phone calls
The Iqua SUN is compatible with any Bluetooth-capable phone that supports
headset profiles or hands-free profiles, including models by Nokia, Siemens,
Motorola, Samsung, Apple, Sharp, Toshiba, and Blackberry. A built-in mini USB
port gives users the option of recharging the device via a desktop computer or
laptop at home, in the office, or on the road.
The Iqua SUN includes interchangeable earplugs for universal comfort, and a
wall-charger, carrying strap and earhook adapter. It will be available in
January at a $99.99 MSRP. At CES, the innovative product will be show in the Las
Vegas Convention Center by Iqua's distributors, Superior Communications and D&H
Distributing, in Booths #9014 in the Central Hall, and Booth #35112 of the South
Hall 4, respectively.

A six-month introductory subscription to the SIRIUS Travel Link service -
combined with the SIRIUS Satellite Radio audio service - will be included in
every Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicle equipped with Ford's next-generation
navigation system.
In-Car Communications Popularity Soars
American consumers increasingly expect to stay connected and enjoy instant
access to information, studies show. Approximately 243 million Americans have
mobile phones today and four of every five adults have regular access to the
internet.
By 2009, trends indicate there will be as least 250 million portable media
players in use.
A third of U.S. consumers are very interested in having Internet access in
their vehicles, and the number is close to 50 percent for survey respondents
between the ages of 16 and 25, according to a 2007 J.D. Power Automotive
Emerging Technologies study.
"Consumers are increasingly demanding seamless connectivity between their
house and office and car," noted Sheryl Connelly, Ford Global Trends and
Futuring manager. "They want to be able to access information 'just in time' or
on-demand, because they are used to having access to it wherever they go. More
than anything, they want to stay connected and informed."

Parrot Announces Two New Smart, Sleek Wireless Stereo Speakers
The Parrot DS3120, a universal stereo speaker dock and hands-free calling in home entertainment hub, and The Parrot DS1120, a trendy and powerful set of wireless speakers
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 / -- Parrot, a leader in wireless peripherals around the
mobile phone, will announce the launch of two new sleek and powerful wireless
stereo speaker systems at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week -- the
Parrot DS1120, a set of trendy and sleek 30W wireless speakers which were
selected as a finalist in the Music category of the Bluetooth(R) SIG Best of CES
2008 contest, and the Parrot DS3120 which combines a multi-connectivity stereo
speaker dock with hands-free calling capabilities for an all-in-one home
entertainment hub. Parrot will demonstrate these products at CES, South Hall
booth # 36838.
PARROT DS3120
The new Parrot DS3120 is an innovative home stereo that combines Parrot's
award-winning wireless music and hands-free calling technology in one unit.
Consumers can now enjoy their music without being tethered to headphones,
allowing them to listen to music out loud virtually anywhere, anytime.
The Parrot DS3120 allows users to play music from mobile phones, music
players, PCs and laptops wirelessly via Bluetooth(R) Stereo (A2DP) or through a
USB connection. It also has an SD card slot, a line-in for iPod(R) and a
built-in FM/RDS radio.
"Music is part of our everyday life. The Parrot DS3120 is a clock-radio with
unique high-quality sound, amazing new features like the built-in screen
display, all packed in an exceptional wireless design," says Henri Seydoux,
founder and CEO of Parrot. "The Parrot DS3120 has been designed to offer
unmatched audio performance and provides a smooth connection to a wide range of
audio sources."
Once paired with a mobile phone, the unit also allows users to search through
their contacts and channel voice calls through its high-quality 20W speakers.
The 1.8-inch color TFT screen displays track and album details when playing
music and phonebook information when making or taking a call. When in music
mode, the track details are grouped by source, artist, album and title. Users
can select their source, see the track information and enjoy their music.
The Parrot DS3120 has its own battery power source when required, allowing
for up to 10 hours playback, and weighs in at only 1.5kg / 3.3 lbs making it
highly portable.
Voice calls are high-quality thanks to Parrot's heritage in making high- end
in-car communications technology. A microphone built into the unit picks up the
user's voice from wherever they are in room and effectively cancels out all
background noise. When receiving incoming calls with caller ID, music is
automatically muted and any phonebook images stored on the user's mobile phone
are displayed on the bright screen.
The Parrot DS3120 will be available in Europe and the U.S. in the second
quarter of 2008 with a suggested MSRP of $249.99.
PARROT DS1120
The Parrot DS1120 is an all-new high-fidelity set of wireless stereo speakers
that work seamlessly with the users' cell phone, MP3-player, or laptop,
delivering unrivalled sound quality in the house. Packed in a pure and compact
design, it plays the users favorite tracks from any Bluetooth(R) Stereo (A2DP)
music source with great audio quality.
"The Parrot DS1120 has been designed to deliver optimal audio performance,
and provides a very easy connection to a wide range of audio sources," says
Henri Seydoux, founder and CEO of Parrot. "Its wireless design provides more
flexibility than any traditional stereo, which makes it ideal for the home
environment."
The Parrot DS1120 has a Class-D digital amplifier in each speaker with a
total power output of 30W RMS, delivering crystal-clear sound with the necessary
punch. The bass system is cleverly hidden in the speaker stands and the
three-button user interface located at the top speaker face is touch- sensitive.
If the audio source device does not have Bluetooth(R) technology nor support the
A2DP profile, users can still play music wirelessly by using a Bluetooth(R) 2.0.
USB Parrot dongle included with the Parrot DS1120 or in the traditional way by
simply connecting their music source via the included line- in RCA jack.
The Parrot DS1120 will be available in Europe and the U.S. in the second
quarter of 2008 with a suggested MSRP of $279.99.

ABOUT PARROT
Founded in 1994, Parrot has rapidly established itself as a pivotal global
player for wireless mobile telephone accessories. Drawing on its tried-and-
tested expertise on voice recognition and signal processing technologies, Parrot
was one of the very first companies to produce Bluetooth(R)-based wireless hands
free car kits, having identified this standard's vast potential as early as
1999. In 2006, Parrot sold about 3 million units. Determined to accompany the
wireless peripherals' irresistible breakthrough into our day-to- day lives,
Parrot has been developing since 2006 a new wireless range of sound and image
products. Today, Parrot truly has a major international focus: 90.5% of its
sales are generated outside of France, and a large percentage of its production
is outsourced to carefully selected partners, enabling it to achieve the best
possible level of quality and responsiveness. Parrot is now particularly well
positioned to capitalize on the bright future opening up for mobile telephone
devices. Parrot has achieved strong growth in its consolidated revenues, up from

Parrot to Show its First NFC-enabled Products* at CES Las Vegas 2008
Parrot - NFC-enabled prototype products will include a digital photo frame, a stereo speaker system, a conference phone and a hands-free car kit which all work with a Nokia NFC- enabled phone
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 /-- Parrot, a leader in wireless peripherals around the
mobile phone, is presenting at the Consumer Electronics Show its first wireless
Bluetooth(R) digital photo frame that incorporates Near Field Communications
(NFC) technology and enables easy pairing of Bluetooth(R) devices. This photo
frame will be available to view at the South Hall 3 booth #35838, the NFC booth
Sands 73826, and at the North Hall Booth #6024.
NFC is an extremely short-range (4.0 inches or 10 cm) wireless communication
technology that dramatically simplifies the pairing of Bluetooth(R) and Wi-Fi
devices. Essentially, it enables devices to automatically recognize and pair
with each other when they are in close proximity. This eliminates the typical
multi-step manual pairing process between Bluetooth(R) devices that could take
consumers one to two minutes or longer to conclude, especially on their first
attempt.
"The value lies in the fact that NFC is fast and easy to use, while ensuring
a high level of security," says Henri Seydoux, founder and CEO of Parrot. "It
greatly simplifies the pairing process of the full range of Bluetooth(R) devices
for consumers-- from digital photo frames to music and car kits -- so they can
more easily enjoy the benefits of wireless Bluetooth(R) technology."
"Parrot is committed to developing products that make people's lives easier,
and achieving this goal starts with making products intuitive and easy to use,"
says Seydoux. "Parrot welcomes any industry initiative such as NFC that helps
improve the customer experience via simplicity of use and more user-friendly
features. "
Parrot, the world's leading manufacturer of hands-free wireless Bluetooth(R)
devices, also has a growing line of wireless multimedia products including
digital photo frames and stereo speakers. As a leading expert in wireless
applications around the mobile phone, Parrot has been an active member of the
NFC Forum for almost two years.
Parrot feels that playing an active part in the NFC Forum initiative will be
key to ensuring that NFC is implemented to its full potential in all its future
products.
Operating at 13.56 MHz and transferring data at up to 424 Kbits/second, NFC
provides intuitive, simple, and safe communication between electronic devices.
NFC is both a "read" and "write" technology. Communication between two
NFC-compatible devices occurs when they are brought within a few inches of one
another; a simple wave or touch can establish an NFC connection, which is then
compatible with other known wireless technologies such as Bluetooth(R) or Wi-Fi.
The underlying layers of NFC technology follow universally implemented ISO, ECMA,
and ETSI standards. Because the transmission range is so short, NFC-enabled
transactions are inherently secure.
NFC can be used with a variety of devices, from mobile phones that enable
payment or transfer information to digital cameras that send their photos to a
digital photo frame with just a touch. The possibilities are endless and NFC is
sure to take the complexities out of today's increasingly sophisticated consumer
devices making them simple to use.
NFC is an open standard, governed by the NFC Forum whose charter is to guarantee interoperability between applications. Its activities include development of benchmarks, test certification standards, and supporting "plug fest" events. For more information, visit:

ATS Selects Gennum's ActiveConnect(TM) for New HDMI Cables
Long Reach Technology Enables 1080p Signals at 100 Meters
BURLINGTON, Ontario Underscoring the continued momentum for ActiveConnect(TM) technology from Gennum Corporation (TSX: GND), Advance Technology Source (ATS), a premier cable supplier, will leverage the new long-reach connectivity technology in its latest cable product family, Cheetah. Capable of streaming full performance high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) at up to 100 meters, the ActiveConnect solution from Gennum more than triples the reach of previous HDMI cable solutions from ATS. The new Cheetah cable line from ATS will be displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week and joins a growing list of cable products based on the Gennum ActiveConnect technology.
"The Gennum ActiveConnect solution is enabling ATS to bring a new class of HDMI connectivity to our customers," said Eric Johnson, president of ATS. "Our new Cheetah line will allow an HDMI signal--over copper cabling--to reach up to 100 meters with a clear, full HD 1080p signal. Being able to offer a lower cost, higher performance solution at unprecedented distances gives ATS a clear advantage for both consumer and industrial applications."
The Cheetah line of HDMI products will include support for HDMI 1.1, HDMI 1.3 and long haul HDMI. The Cheetah DVI line will provide a digital visual interface (DVI) cable for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) providing products for medical, teleconferencing and projection applications. With distances spanning from 30 to 450 feet, the Cheetah family of cables will be available beginning in January and then throughout 2008.
"Consumers are increasingly demanding longer cables to connect their displays to various multimedia devices, which are often located across the room or in a media closet," said Martin Rofheart, Senior Vice President and GM of the Analog & Mixed-Signal Division, Gennum Corporation. "However, consumers are not willing to compromise on the performance of their system and the significant equipment investment that they have made. ActiveConnect provides ATS the connectivity technology to ensure the highest performance, at the longest distances and at the lowest price points for cabling that supports both HDMI and DVI, meeting the consumer demand."
About Gennum's ActiveConnect Solution and the CES Demonstration
Targeting high-rate HDMI applications, the semiconductor-based solution is comprised of a transmitter and a receiver and enables consumer, business and industrial applications to stream HDMI content, via low-cost cable, at distances an order of magnitude greater than cables available today. Gennum ActiveConnect(TM) Solution Adopted by Orbital Development for New HDMI Connectivity Products
New Cable System Reliably Streams HDMI Signals Up to 100 Meters
BURLINGTON, Ontario Adding another high-volume cable designer to its growing customer base, Gennum Corporation (TSX:GND) today announced that Orbital Development LLC has adopted the company's ActiveConnect(TM) solution and is designing a line of connectivity products for the home entertainment and professional A/V markets. Expected to be available through a significant number of high-profile brands, the new connectivity products will be used to reliably stream high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) signals up to 100 meters.
"The Gennum ActiveConnect solution is currently the only receiver/transmitter product on the market capable of streaming HDMI signals at this distance using low-cost copper cable," said Jay Victor, President of Orbital Development LLC. "As a result, we can develop long-haul cable solutions that deliver 1080p and deep color without any degradation in multimedia performance and without the traditionally hefty price tag. We anticipate this technology will enable a wide range of both A/V professionals and consumers to experience the full benefits of HDMI."
"Today's long-reach cable solutions are incapable of matching the full HD performance of high-end multimedia products such as displays, digital televisions and computers," said Martin Rofheart, Senior Vice President and GM of the Analog & Mixed-Signal Division, Gennum Corporation. "As a result, consumers either unknowingly purchase lesser-performing, long-distance cables or expensive shorter reach cables. The Gennum ActiveConnect solution helps overcome the significant cost and performance drawbacks of current cabling products."
Orbital Development will be developing long-length HDMI solutions using the Gennum ActiveConnect solution for OEM customers to meet the requirements of their market segments. Complete product solutions will be developed according to the customer's needs and requirements.

Palo Alto, California – January 4, 2008 - The CompactFlash Association (CFA)
announces that CFast connectors and package will be displayed at CES 2008 in the
CFA booth South 3 30166.
The CFast WG was formed in July 2007 to develop the CFast specification for a
CompactFlash card with a SATA (Serial ATA) interface. CFA members interested in
the SATA interface should apply for inclusion in the CFA's SATA working group.
Mr. Shigeto Kanda of Canon and the CFA chairman of the board said "The
development of a CompactFlash card with a SATA interface will maintain the
dominance of CompactFlash in the non-consumer (embedded systems, single board
computers, data recorder, etc.) markets as well as promote its use in other
applications such as digital SLR cameras and professional video cameras. Having
the SATA interface will be a significant step for CompactFlash."
The current PATA (parallel ATA) interface provides up to a 133MB/second
interface data rate. The SATA interface will provide interface data rates up to
3Gb/sec as well as compatibility with the SATA disk drive interfaces that are
increasingly being used.
CompactFlash card slots are in over 360 digital cameras/video cameras and over
745 other electronic platforms including embedded systems, single board
computers, data recorders, heart monitors, defibrillators, slot machines, etc.
CompactFlash cards are currently available up to 32GB with sustained data rates
of 45MB/sec. and provide the dominant SSD flash storage solution for embedded
systems, single board computers and the new multi-mega pixel DSLR cameras and
other devices.
The CF+ and CompactFlash Standard ensures that today's and tomorrow's digital
cameras will be compatible with faster and even higher capacity CF cards, as
they become available.
In addition to CompactFlash data storage cards, there are CF cards that provide
I/O capability. VGA, Ethernet, modem, serial, parallel, digital phone, GSM,
Bluetooth, Ethernet wireless, wand & laser barcode scanners, finger print
scanners, TV and GPS CF+ cards are all available.
CFA members can participate in the CFA CFast working group and access
documentation as the CFast specification is developed.
The CF latest published Specification; Revision 4.1 is available to download
from the CFA web site at
http://www.compactflash.org.

licensed royalty free to its members.
The CFA is a licensee of the CompactFlash® trademark and in turn will license it
royalty-free to its members.
TIVOLI AUDIO PRESENTS ITS MUSIC SYSTEM AND MODEL ONE IN
NEW EXOTIC HARDWOODS AND DECORATIVE FINISHES
BOSTON, MA — Tivoli Audio re-introduces its all-in-one Music System and
classic Model One table radio in new finishes featuring exotic and decorative
hardwoods. The Music System, a full-featured tabletop music system in high
fidelity stereo sound, is now available in wenge (pronounced "venga"), an exotic
hardwood characterized by its distinct dark brown color and tightly-spaced
grain. The high gloss dark walnut and new wenge finishes are accented by bronze
faceplates and dark brown knobs, which presents a new face on the existing dark
walnut design. The Model One, highly acclaimed table radio, will also be
available in the new wenge finish with a bronze faceplate.
"It has been Tivoli Audio's trademark to bring to market high performance audio
products that look as good as they sound," says Tom DeVesto, Tivoli Audio's
Chairman and CEO. "We have always introduced our products in high quality,
furniture grade woods, decorative finishes, and colors to fit perfectly into any
room décor."
The Tivoli Audio Music System features a wide array of easy-to-use, convenient
features, including a built-in slot-load CD player, AM/FM radio, built-in
powered subwoofer, and digital clock with battery backup and dual alarms. The
single-slot CD player has shuffle and repeat functions, and is compatible with
all popular music formats, including CD, MP3, WMA, CD-R, and CD-RW.
Both AM and FM antennas are included for optimum radio reception, and buttons on
the front enable pre-setting of six favorite AM and FM radio stations. A
32-character, easy-to-read, automatically adjustable lighted display shows
CD/MP3 text and Radio Data System (RDS) information, where available. Whatever
the sound source, either CD or radio, the Tivoli Audio Music System offers full
and expansive, high-fidelity stereo sound via its two incorporated speakers with
SpacePhaseTM equalization choices between mono, stereo and wide mode, while a
built-in, down-firing 5" magnetically-shielded powered subwoofer adds rich,
musical bass. The subwoofer also has a control for volume.
The unit also features a bass reflex design for extended bass response, and
separate amps for maximum power efficiency. It features full-range, long-throw
3" drivers, and comes with a credit card size remote. The digital clock
functionalities of the Tivoli Audio Music System are equally abundant, and
include current date. Dual alarms can be set for wake-up to AM, FM, CD, or tone,
and a 7-minute snooze function lets users grab a few extra minutes before being
reawakened. In addition, a fixed sleep timer automatically turns off the music
after a 20-munite time period; and the time is always visible on the unit's
large, light blue dot-matrix display. For extra sleep comfort, the display light
has a built-in light sensor to automatically dim the light in darkness.
The Model One is Tivoli Audio's original signature product introduced as its
first table radio in furniture-grade cabinets accented by colored faceplates.
The new wenge tropical hardwood is beautifully set off by a bronze faceplate.
The Model One pulls in more listenable FM stations than any other table radio.
Its mono AM/FM radio features three knobs for power, volume and tuning. The
Model One's AC power supply is conveniently built-in so that no separate "wall
brick" is necessary and a 12-volt jack on the back makes it possible to play in
a vehicle or even on a boat. Additional features include an auxiliary input for
an external program source, such as an iPod or CD player, and outputs for both
tape recording and headphones.
The Model One Table Radio uses a state-of-the-art discrete-component FM tuner
technology originally developed for cell phones and never before used in an FM
radio, resulting in more listenable stations. The geared-down 5:1 ratio tuning
dial creates smaller and more precise movements of the actual tuning mechanism
and an amber LED indicator light glows brightly when the station is tuned on
center.
The new Music System units in Wenge/Bronze will retail for $999.99, the High
Gloss Dark Walnut/Bronze Music System will retail for $1199.99 and the Model One
in Wenge will retail for $119.99. All models will be sold nationwide at
distinctive retail outlets or direct by calling toll-free to 877-297-9479 or
online at www.tivoliaudio.com.

VENMILL AND CHECKFLIX PARTNER TO BRING TOTAL DISC SOLUTION TO THE CONSUMER
MARKET
First of its kind total disc evaluation and repair solution suitable for all
types of optical media, including Blu-ray and HD-DVD disc formats
Uxbridge, MA and Las Vegas, NV (2008 International CES, booth South 2 26346)
— January 04, 2008 —
VenMill Industries,
the leader in disc repair and maintenance, today announced it has entered into a
partnership with Longmont, CO-based
CheckFlix, Inc., the leader in high-speed disc measurement. Under the terms
of the agreement, VenMill will have exclusive distribution rights among disc
repair companies to CheckFlix' "certifier" disc measurement systems.
Unlike competing products, the CheckFlix certifier system directly measures
surface damage with a laser and high-speed electronics, enabling it to inspect
an entire disc in less than five seconds regardless of format — 50 to 1,000
times faster than conventional verification tools that have to read each bit at
a time and generally don't inspect the entire surface. In addition to being
fast, accurate and reliable, the CheckFlix certifier specifically measures
user-induced surface damage, removing the guess work from selecting the correct
disc polishing/repair operation and determining whether such operations will be
effective on that particular disc.
"We are proud to be working with VenMill, a company with a long history of
innovative products, to benefit their customers with this new technology," said
John C. Meyer, founder and COO of CheckFlix. "The ability to objectively
determine the surface damage and the playability of a disc is something that
this industry has needed for a long time."
VenMill's OptoClearTM Technology — available in the company's
Skip-Away and professional-grade
Elite 60 products — is a
revolutionary non-aggressive approach to optical disc cleaning and repair while
maintaining the integrity of information on the disc. OptoClear works like
ironing a shirt: it applies the right combination of heat, pressure and time to
smooth the peaks and valleys on the disc. Once a disc is inserted, the
protective plastic layer is exposed to heat, making the surface malleable.
Simultaneously, the right amount of pressure is applied to smooth out the
surface, turning the skipping mountain range back into a playable plane.
Combined with CheckFlix' certifier technology, the OptoClear process provides
consumers with a one-stop source for protecting and maintaining their optical
disc media libraries, including videos, music, games and computer software.
"This partnership provides our customers and the industry with a fully automated
solution for both evaluating and repairing optical discs, including hot new
technologies such as HD and Blu-ray," said Daniel Diotte, founder of
VenMill Industries. "Finally, consumers
and businesses will be able to assess, fix and protect their valuable, and
costly, media libraries from a single source."
In addition to the distribution agreement, the companies are currently
developing a single-footprint total disc evaluation and repair solution. Perfect
for consumers with large media collections, disc rental companies, small
businesses and IT staffs, the solution will include CheckFlix' certifier
technology and VenMill's Skip-Away; a version featuring the VenMill Elite 60
will also be available. The solution will leverage the certifier technology to
evaluate the disc and automatically program the Elite 60 unit with the correct
repair cycle, making it the first totally automated evaluation and repair
solution available.
Demos of the joint VenMill/CheckFlix total solution will be available at the
2008 International
CES, booth
South 2 26346, January 7-10 in Las Vegas.
About VenMill
VenMill Industries is the leading manufacturer of disc repair and maintenance
machines for disc format optical media. Its flagship product, the VMI 3500, is
currently in use at video store chains, libraries, corporations and personal
collections around the globe, to repair and maintain DVDs, CDs, Game Discs and
HD-DVDs while maintaining the integrity of the discs. Headquartered in Uxbridge,
Massachusetts, the company sells its products through major distributors in the
United States and worldwide. More information about VenMill is available at
http://www.venmill.com.
About CheckFlix, Inc.
CheckFlix, Inc. is the leader in high-speed optical disc measurement. Using
technology adopted from the aerospace and semiconductor industries to accurately
measure surface defects, the company provides customers the ability to
accurately measure the surface damage on discs, such as DVD, CD, and game discs,
which can affect playability. The ability to eliminate a damaged disc from
circulation creates customer confidence and loyalty. This damage had been an
accepted, but unwanted, consequence of renting and exchanging discs. The partial
solutions to this problem available in the marketplace were too slow and
inaccurate. CheckFlix' patent-pending and proprietary technology enables the
user to accurately and reliably measure the complete surface of a disc in less
than five seconds. For more information, please visit

BiTMICRO Set to Launch Industry's Highest Capacity 2.5-inch Serial ATA Solid State Disk with E-Disk® Altima(tm) SATA Flash SSD
Latest NAND Flash Technology Will Allow BiTMICRO to Offer up to 832GB Capacity in Compact Form Factor, Paving the Way for Mass SSD Deployment in the Performance and Capacity-Hungry Yet Price-Sensitive Personal Computing and Enterprise Markets
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Las Vegas, NV - January 7, 2008, - Flash solid state disk (SSD) pioneer BiTMICRO Networks announced at the CES 2008 show in Las Vegas, Nevada its plan to launch an 832GB version of the E-Disk® Altima(tm) SATA flash SSD in 2.5-inch form factor.
E-Disk® Altima(tm) E2A3GM flash SSD will utilize the multi-level cell (MLC) type of NAND flash, which doubles the number of bits stored per memory cell compared to the single-level cell (SLC) NAND, effectively increasing data density at low price points. What's more, BiTMICRO will be using its EDSA(tm) and LUNETA(tm) controllers to optimize the performance of the E-Disk® Altima(tm) SATA flash SSD, allowing the drive to reach peak data transfer and I/O rates that are comparable with current SLC flash-equipped solid state drives.
The 2.5-inch E-Disk® Altima(tm) E2A3GM flash SSD is estimated to deliver sustained rates of up to 100 MB per second and up to 20,000 I/O operations per second. BiTMICRO further complements this SSD-level performance with enterprise-level capacities, as the E-Disk® Altima(tm) SATA flash solid state disk can reach capacities of up to 832GB of pure solid-state flash storage. The drive offers SATA 3.0 Gbps support and "hot pluggable" capabilities to personal computing and enterprise applications requiring high capacity and high performance yet affordable solid state storage.
"This latest product pre-announcement seeks to establish BiTMICRO's commitment to deliver solid state storage in all market applications," said Rudy Bruce, Executive VP for Marketing and Sales and CMO at BiTMICRO Networks. "We are excited to offer E-Disk® Altima(tm) SATA flash solid state drive as a PC and enterprise storage alternative offering the best-in-class capacity, performance and reliability."
"The declining cost of NAND flash memory, coupled with rising SSD densities, is enabling SSD implementation in the personal computing market," says Jeff Janukowicz, Research Manager for Solid State Drives at IDC. "More cost-effective SSD solutions based on MLC technology, such as the E-Disk® Altima(tm) E2A3GM flash SSD from BiTMICRO, are positioned to take advantage of the tremendous unit growth opportunity in the personal computer SSD segment, which is expected to rise by 477% annually from 2006 to 2011."

About EDSA(tm) and LUNETA(tm)
The Enhanced Datamover and Storage Accelerator (EDSA(tm)) flash I/O controller is a proprietary ASIC that succeeds the highly successful disk controller chipset of BiTMICRO®'s electronic disk technology. The EDSA(tm) flash I/O controller supports large block NAND and AND flash as well as single, dual, quad-die flash devices, allowing BiTMICRO to hike E-Disk® Altima(tm) solid state disk capacities to terabytes of pure flash memory.
EDSA(tm) goes hand in hand with the Logical Unifier of Extensive Transfer Arrays (LUNETA(tm)) ASIC, BiTMICRO's proprietary flash memory management interface controller that is designed to orchestrate massively parallel and multi-block I/O operations on large arrays of flash devices. LUNETA(tm) supports both NAND (SLC or MLC) and AND types of flash memory and is typically used in designs to complement the EDSA(tm) controller in applications that require scalability and management of larger amounts of flash devices.

TARRYTOWN, N.Y., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- On2 Technologies, Inc., , a leader in video compression solutions, announced today that its showcase at the upcoming 2008 International CES in Las Vegas from January 7-10, 2008, will focus on high definition (HD) video solutions that are ushering in the next phase of web, VoIP and mobile video.
"We demonstrated very efficient HD video at CES last year, and our premise was that 2007 was going to be the year when HD becomes available for key mass market applications," said Bill Joll, president and CEO. "Before the year was out, On2 helped customers establish HD and high resolution video milestones consistent with our vision. 2008 will be the year when HD video comes to its own, and On2 is ready to bridge the world of web, VoIP and mobile video to this next frontier in video, both with our core codec technologies and our embedded Hantro products."
On2's High Definition video demonstrations will include the following highlights:
-- On2's newly released TrueMotion(R) VP6-S(TM) codec used in Adobe(R)Flash(R) Player 9, designed specifically to allow HD video playback in power restricted applications, delivering 720P HD video playable on
1.7 GHz computers, and streaming HD at 1.6 Mbps.
-- TrueMotion VP7.2 used in Skype video conferencing for high quality, full screen video conferencing, capable of 720P HD video at 300kbps with fixed camera encodes.
-- On2's Hantro products embedded 6280 encoder RTL designs. Enabling real time encoding of 720P HD video, the design is targeted for baseband and application processors destined for mobile phones and handheld devices.
In addition, On2 will demonstrate Hantro hardware video acceleration on- chip in a feature phone. Enabling VGA resolution video playback to a TV screen, the technology matches the performance of today's cutting edge multi- chip smartphones in low-cost single chip feature phones.
"The common thread to all these innovations is making HD possible in extremely resource constrained environments and low bandwidths. We are demonstrating commercially deployed HD applications that have recently come to market, and technology platforms that will make HD video further mainstream in 2008," added Bill Joll.
The On2 Technologies booth, #11808 is located in the Content@CES Techzone, in the Central Hall at the LasVegas Convention Center. On2 executives will be available to meet at the booth throughout the show. To schedule a meeting in advance, email media@on2.com

American Telecom Services Introduces More than Thirty New DECT
6.0 Multi-Handset Pay N’ Talk and Internet Phones at the Consumer
Electronics Show
Company remains a U.S. leader in cordless DECT 6.0 multi-handset and Internet phones
using interference-free technology
—American Telecom Services, Inc., (AMEX: TES) a leading
provider of converged communications solutions, today announced the introduction of
more than 30 new models of Pay N’ Talk™ and Digital Clear™ Internet cordless phones.
The announcement, made at the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las
Vegas, includes Digital Clear Internet phones for consumers, small business Internet
phone offerings, and traditional Pay N’ Talk cordless, multi-handset phones, each with its
own corresponding service offering.
All cordless phones use the interference-free DECT 6.0 protocol to expand to as many as
five handset locations without interference from Wi-Fi, microwave ovens or other
cordless phones. DECT is a proven technology available for many years in Europe, but
only recently available in the U.S. DECT 6.0 provides better sound, increased
functionality and a lower cost structure than the 5.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz platforms that are
commonly used for cordless communications in the U.S. ATS provides the most diverse
selection of DECT Pay N’ Talk and Digital Clear cordless Internet phones in the U.S., all
bundled with service offerings.
ATS phones are currently available at Staples, Office Depot, Eckerd’s, CVS, Sears,
Brandsmart, QVC, TigerDirect and Target.com. The new phone models will begin to
appear in these and other stores, as well as through online “e-tailers,” in the first quarter
of 2007.
With prices ranging from $19.99–$99.99, these feature-rich phones are some of the most
affordable in the market. Special retailer promotions and rebates are available on some
phones, providing even greater values to consumers.
Digital Clear cordless Internet phones (with DECT 6.0 technology)
These ATS Digital Clear Internet phones will be bundled with corresponding service
offerings from Lingo and SunRocket and are optimized for the simplest configuration and
highest quality. In addition to operating with interference-free DECT 6.0 technology, the
phones are equipped with a patent pending built-in Internet phone adapter and router,
which makes the equipment a totally self-contained Internet phone solution. The phones
connect directly into the user’s broadband modem and have an output for a PC,
eliminating the need for an external router, Internet phone adapter and complicated
wiring.
ATS is introducing the following models:
Model SP/SS101, with interference-free DECT 6.0 technology, includes a 1.9 GHz
cordless handset and a router integrated into the charging base. It has a range of more
than 900 feet and is expandable to four handsets. The system can operate as an intercom
between the extension handsets, and each handset is equipped with a speakerphone. Other
features include: last-10-number redial, a 40-number speed dial phonebook, a 20-number
caller ID log, caller ID for call waiting, 12 distinctive ring tones and multi-language
support.
Model SP/SS102 includes the same features and functions as the SP/SS101, but also
includes a traditional phone (RJ-11) jack so users can connect a fax machine to the base
of the master unit, making it ideal for small businesses.
Digital Clear Small Business Phones
Since small office and home office (SOHO) users are already purchasing ATS phones in
office superstores, ATS is launching a product lineup specifically designed for this
consumer and channel in 2007. The new small business products include a corded,
desktop Internet phone (model EP104) where extensions may be placed around the office
and a USB flash drive mobile Internet phone (model JP105). Additionally, ATS is
launching a two-port (model JP107) and four-port (model JP106) Internet phone adapter.
Each allows for multiple phone lines to be installed in any broadband-enabled office and
may be connected to third-party phones or other ATS products (each may be made
available bundled with cordless DECT phones). These products will be bundled with
service offerings specifically designed for this market segment.
Pay N’ Talk cordless phones (with DECT technology)
ATS is also introducing new Pay N’ Talk traditional cordless phones, all with DECT 6.0
interference-free technology. All Pay N’ Talk phones include the unique “Money Saving
Green Button” for one-step access to the company’s patent-pending Pay N’ Talk prepaid
long-distance platform. Each of these models will be made available individually as a
master unit, an extension handset or in multiple handset combinations.
Master Phones
Model RA223 includes the following additional features: caller ID, handset paging from
the base, three-way conferencing, transfer of external calls between handsets, four ring
tone melodies and last-number redial.
Model PA225 has all of the above features, plus multi-language support, a 50-number
phonebook, a 20-number Caller ID log and 10-number redial.
Models RA226, RA227, RA228, RA229, UA233, UA237, GA238, GA239 and UA235
have features that include: intercom between handsets, last-10-number redial, a 40number speed dial phonebook, a 20-number Caller ID log, Caller ID for call waiting,
handsets that serve as speakerphones, 12 distinctive ring tones and multi-language
support. Although similar in features, these phones vary by appearance, giving consumers
the ability to choose the look they want.
Phones with Integrated Answering Systems
Rounding out the new phones are models RA230 and RA236, which include all of the
same advanced functionality of the above units, plus an integrated answering system.
Additional new DECT 6.0 interference-free models include the RA232, GA240 and
EA242.
“With the introduction of these new models, ATS continues to be a leader with the
number and variety of DECT 6.0-enabled phones that we’ve made available in the U.S.,”
said Bruce Hahn, American Telecom CEO. “Furthermore, we continue to look at
innovative ways to use the DECT 6.0 technology to enhance our products, because we
are committed to maintaining our leadership position. We are planning to introduce
additional products throughout 2007 with even more innovative features and service
offerings.”
Visitors to the Consumer Electronics Show can view the new ATS phones at booth 10546
in the central hall. The company will also provide private demonstrations for the media
by appointment only at the Mirage Hotel. To arrange a demonstration, please contact:

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (JAN. 8, 2007) - NextAlarm.com today announced at the
2007 International CES that it is offering an industry-first, with the
introduction of its automated Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system, called
"V-Notify."
With V-Notify, customers are immediately notified of any alarm signals at their
home or business at the phone number of their choice by NextAlarm's automated
system. NextAlarm can even cross-connect the customer with their local police,
fire department or paramedics, when needed.
"Our goal at NextAlarm has always been to put the customer in control of their
security system and give them more options to choose from," said Alex Elliot,
NextAlarm.com's founder and CEO. "Our new automated IVR system certainly helps
give the customer control over their home's or business' security system."
V-Notify is a standard feature in all of NextAlarm's service plans, except for
the Free NextAlarm Notify Plan.
V-Notify has two major sets of features: inbound and outbound. With the inbound
feature, customers can call a phone number from any phone. After the customer
enters their customer number and PIN, NextAlarm's voice attendant allows the
customer to:
| Hear whether their alarm system is currently armed or disarmed. | |
| Put their account in "test mode" or cancel the test mode. | |
| Listen to their recent alarm activity (e.g., "John disarmed system at 2:45 p.m."). | |
| If the customer is using the Alarm Broadband Network™ (ABN), they can be connected through to their alarm system so they can interact with it (i.e., arm or disarm it, listen in to a room, etc.). |
With the outbound feature, the customer, using the NextAlarm.com website, can
configure their service for NextAlarm to call them whenever any alarm activity
occurs. They just specify the phone number where NextAlarm can reach them.
NextAlarm then informs the customer of what has occurred (e.g., "motion detector
violation, upstairs hallway") and provides the customer with the option to be
connected to the local police, fire department or paramedics.

NextAlarm.com, The Broadband Alarm Company®, today announced at the 2007
International CES that it is offering VoIPAlarm. The company also explained
features of its value-added reseller (VAR) program.
The VoIPAlarm program targets alarm companies that want to expand their products
and services without switching customers over to a different service or changing
equipment. VoIPAlarm allows alarm companies to seamlessly integrate NextAlarm's
unique patented monitoring services into their existing product and service
offerings.
"VoIPAlarm provides alarm companies an Internet/VoIP solution to their
customers," said Alex Elliot, NextAlarm.com's founder and CEO. "In addition, the
program allows the alarm company to maintain full control of their accounts at a
lower cost than cellular back-up systems."
NextAlarm also has an active VAR program. Both the VAR program and VoIPAlarm
offer the end user a rich suite of features. Both programs offer NextAlarm's ABN™
(Alarm Broadband Network), the industry's first low-cost broadband solution for
security system monitoring. ABN allows alarm systems to be monitored via
broadband Internet connections, and it works even if the customer only has VoIP
phone service. When an alarm company uses VoIPAlarm, the signals transmit to
NextAlarm via an ABN adapter, which are retransmitted to the central station of
the alarm company's choice, or via a standard phone line. NextAlarm's ABN
adapters are available to dealers and end users at a discounted price.
In addition, both the VAR and VoIPAlarm programs provide the end user
NextAlarm's patent-pending E-Notify™ technology to set up alarm notifications
that are received via e-mail or cell text message. E-Notify works over ABN or a
regular phone line. For an added fee, additional enhanced features – such as
NextAlarm's V-Notify Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system, e-mailed PDF
signal histories and two-way voice service - are available to both dealers and
end users.
NextAlarm's VAR program also includes fully UL-listed monitoring, including
instant notifications by telephone, e-mail or short message service (SMS) when
an alarm is triggered and dispatch of local police, fire department and
paramedics. The VAR program also features online, web-based programming of
compatible alarm systems and handles billing of end users.
For more information about NextAlarm's VAR and VoIPAlarm programs, customers
should send an e-mail to

Additional Lines Enhance Mobile Lifestyle
XS Megazine and TalkPlus today launched XS Talk, an innovative new phone
service that allows mobile users to add new lines to their mobile phone.
“Our goal at XS Megazine is to create an online urban community that encourages
people to express themselves, share information and opinions and get connected,”
said A-sun Truth, XS Megazine CEO. “XS Talk is a service that our subscribers
can use to help manage their interactions and enhance their lifestyles.”
XS Talk is powered by TalkPlus, the provider of advanced services over mobile
networks, and is compatible all major wireless carriers, including Sprint,
Cingular, T-Mobile, and Verizon. With XS Talk, a mobile phone user can now have
up to ten numbers for making and receiving calls on their mobile phone. This
provides an additional layer of privacy and separation between subscribers’
business and private lives.
Up until now, most mobile users have been forced to provide the same mobile
number to everyone – business contacts, personal contacts and passing
acquaintances alike. To get around this limitation, some mobile users have
resorted to carrying multiple phones. With XS Talk, professionals and socially
active individuals can now separate and control the various aspects of their
lives with one mobile phone by using multiple phone numbers, similar to using
multiple email addresses.
XS Talk allows subscribers to choose a mobile number from anywhere, using any
area code in the United States. Subscribers can also change to a different
number as often as desired, screen calls, and easily find and manage voicemail
from their email, a web browser or their mobile phone.
“We’re very excited to partner with XS Megazine,” said TalkPlus CEO Jeff Black.
“Their dynamic mix of lifestyle, music, and culture creates the perfect
opportunity to introduce advanced mobile services to the urban market.”
XS Talk can be quickly activated on a mobile phone, typically in less than three
minutes. Adding the service doesn’t require any new hardware or changes to a
subscriber’s existing carrier plan, even for prepaid cellular customers. Unlike
other new phone services, XS Talk doesn’t require a computer to initiate calls,
others to download software or register to receive calls, or a complicated call
setup.
For a limited time only, XS members can subscribe to XS Talk Basic and Pro Plans
and receive 50 percent off of the first month subscription fee for either the XS
Talk Basic 100 plan or the XS Talk Pro 250 plan. Users must sign-up for XS
Talk before Feb 1, 2007. New subscribers can also download free mixtapes from
The Core DJ’s, featuring the hottest and newest artists in Hip Hop | RnB. To
sign up, visit
www.xsmegazine.com/xsmobile.
The XS Talk Basic Plans start at $8.99 per month for 60 minutes of usage. The
Basic Plan includes the following features:
| TalkPlus Numbers – Get one new, separate number on an existing mobile phone. Subscribers can both send and receive calls with it, so it works just like a regular mobile number. | |
| Number Selection – The new number can be from any area code in the United States. Subscribers can pick the area code for where they live, work, or go to school. | |
| Call Screening – Subscribers can easily screen calls by setting up rules like automatically sending callers to voicemail, to a busy signal, or to another phone number. | |
| Advanced Voicemail – Every TalkPlus Number has a unique voicemail box, with special features that make it easy to find and manage voicemail. | |
| Number Flexibility – Subscribers can use their TalkPlus number for the long or short term. TalkPlus numbers can be changed as often as desired. | |
| Contact Center – The web-based TalkPlus Contact Center allows subscribers to easily manage their phonebook, review voicemail, and set up call screens. |
The XS Talk Pro Plans start at $16.99 per month for 60 minutes of usage. The
Pro Plan includes the following advanced mobile features:
| Multiple TalkPlus Numbers –Subscribers can get up to ten new numbers on their mobile phone, from anywhere in the United States. All numbers will have their own voicemail, easily accessible from one mobile phone. TalkPlus tells subscribers which number is being called. | |
| Dial-Out Numbers –Subscribers can set up TalkPlus to make calls using a number that they already own, such as a home or office number. This number will appear on the recipient's caller ID. Up to ten Dial-Out Numbers can be added to one mobile phone. | |
| Conference Calling – Subscribers can use TalkPlus to hold conference calls on their mobile phone with up to ten participants. Calls are easy to set up and very affordable. |

New Multi-line Service For Mobile Phone Allows Subscribers To Instantly Alter Caller ID
TalkPlus introduced two new mobile products that will allow active
professionals and individuals to more precisely manage their inbound and
outbound calls. By allowing customers to instantly alter their outbound caller
ID to any pre-authorized number, and by enabling advanced features for inbound
calls, the TalkPlus system can transform the typical limited-feature mobile
device into a fully-featured call management system.
“We’ve spent the last several months beta testing the TalkPlus technology and
the positive response has been overwhelming,” said Jeff Black, CEO. “Doctors,
business professionals, college students, and the socially active are just a few
of the people who have been using TalkPlus to better manage their
communications.”
For the first time, TalkPlus subscribers using Sprint, Cingular, T-Mobile and
Verizon can have multiple numbers for placing and receiving calls on a single
mobile phone, giving them the flexibility they need to manage their complex
lives more easily.
TalkPlus Offers Greater Privacy and Flexibility
By easily separating business and personal calls, TalkPlus Numbers dramatically
increase subscriber privacy. A TalkPlus Number can be quickly created, used for
temporary situations and then discarded. If a TalkPlus subscriber is selling a
car online, they can get a disposable number just for the sales process. With
Mirror Numbers, mobile subscribers can instantly alter their caller ID to any
approved phone number.
In addition, the Contact Center allows subscribers to select call screening
rules for their contacts, including always sending a caller to voicemail, to a
fast busy signal (blacklisting), or allowing a person to reach them when their
number is set to “Do Not Disturb” (white-listing).
Just seconds to activate a TalkPlus Number
TalkPlus can be activated on any of today’s mobile phones in seconds. Adding a
new TalkPlus Number doesn’t require any new hardware or changes to a
subscriber’s existing carrier plan, even for prepaid customers. Unlike other
new phone services, TalkPlus doesn’t require access to a computer to make calls,
asking others to download software, or conducting complicated call set-up
processes.

Honda’s Newest ASIMO Humanoid Robot Sprints to Its North American Debut
At Consumer Electronics Show
TORRANCE, Calif., January 9, 2007 – A breakthrough version of Honda’s humanoid robot ASIMO made its North American debut today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nev. The latest ASIMO incorporates several significant technological advancements including a streamlined new design, even more fluid and quick movements and the ability to run at nearly 4 mph. The running robot also has several other new mobility and artificial intelligence capabilities for enhanced human interaction.
“For the first time in North America, we’re demonstrating this newest iteration of Honda’s remarkable humanoid robotics technology. ASIMO now has a revolutionary ability to run and maneuver at unprecedented speeds,” said Jeffrey Smith, American Honda assistant vice president. “Honda continues to further the development of humanoid robotics technology, believing that one day ASIMO will be a helper to people in need.”
The new ASIMO can much better interact with and carry out commands given by
people and can more effectively perform numerous new tasks including moving
carts and carrying objects. The primary advancements
of the newest ASIMO include:
1. Enhanced human interaction
By providing ASIMO with the ability to recognize the surrounding environment through its visual sensors, floor surface sensor, ultrasonic sensor, and by an IC Tele-interaction Communication Card[1], ASIMO can more autonomously interact with people. Through the coordinated use of its eye cameras in the head and the force (kinesthetic) sensors on its wrists, ASIMO can give and receive an object such as a tray. And by using these force sensors, ASIMO can hold the hand of the person and move in sync with them.
2. Carrying objects using a cart
ASIMO is now capable of handling a cart freely while maintaining an appropriate distance from the cart by adjusting the force of its right and left arms to push a cart using the force sensors on its wrists. Even when the movement of the cart is disturbed, ASIMO can continue maneuvering by taking flexible actions such as slowing down or changing directions.
3. Running
Through proactive control of ASIMO’s posture while both feet are off the ground, ASIMO can run at nearly 4 mph. In addition, running in a circular pattern at a high speed was achieved by tilting the center of gravity of ASIMO’s body inside of the circle to maintain balance with the amount of centrifugal force experienced.
Honda continues ASIMO’s development with the goal of one day producing a robot capable of assisting those who lack full mobility and of working in environments dangerous for humans.
About ASIMO
ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility) is the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, with the ability to run, walk forward and backward, climb stairs, turn smoothly without pausing, and maintain balance, even while walking on uneven slopes and surfaces. Honda engineers began developing a humanoid robot in 1986 for the purpose of someday helping people in need. After years of research and development, they created an advanced humanoid robot able to function in real-world environments. ASIMO made its U.S. debut February 14, 2002, when it rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd.’s listing on the NYSE.
