![]() NO IMPACT MAN: THE DOCUMENTARY Presented by Screening Liberally & DCTV Tue 9/8, 7:30pm, DCTV
Author Colin Beavan, in research for his next book, began the No Impact
Project in November 2006. A newly self-proclaimed environmentalist who
could no longer avoid pointing the finger at himself, Colin leaves behind
his liberal complacency for a vow to make as little environmental impact
as possible for one year. No more automated transportation, no more
electricity, no more non-local food, no more material consumption...no
problem. That is, until his espresso-guzzling, retail-worshipping wife
Michelle and their two year-old daughter are dragged into the fray. Laura
Gabbert and Justin Schein's film provides a front-row seat into the
experiment that became a national fascination and media sensation as well
as an intriguing inside look at the familial strains and strengthened
bonds that result from Colin and Michelle's struggle with their radical
lifestyle change.
Screening Liberally & DCTV are honored to be screening this advanced preview of No Impact Man, introduced by No Impact Man himself, Colin Beavan, and followed by a Q&A with the film's Co-Director, Justin Schein. FREE. Limited seating. RSVP REQUIRED to livingliberally@gmail.com.

SECTION
60: ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERYMon 10/13 @ 9pm on HBO Called "the saddest acre in America," Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery is a burial ground for U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, a place where family and friends go to honor their loved ones. The third in a trilogy of Iraq-related HBO documentaries (following the Emmy®-winning "Baghdad ER" and the Emmy®-nominated "Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq") from DCTV's Jon Alpert and Matthew O'Neill, this moving verité documentary provides rare, up close and intimate glimpses of the loss, love and pride felt by Section 60 visitors, underscoring the human toll exacted by the military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, while honoring those who sacrificed their lives for their country. Granted unprecedented access, Jon and Matt captured the sights and sounds of this quiet pocket of Arlington National Cemetery. For families and friends, it is a place to grieve, to honor, to remember - and to find comfort and community with others who have shared the same profound loss. The film is a reverent snapshot of the ever-expanding Section 60, which itself epitomizes the honor of service and the cost of war. |
