David Duchovny Makes Return to TV on SHOWTIME In Sophisticated New Comedy Series (As Yet Untitled)

LOS ANGELES, March 15- Following in the footsteps of the successful and highly-acclaimed series Dexter, Weeds and Brotherhood, SHOWTIME has ordered 12 half-hour episodes of a stylish new comedy series, (as yet untitled) scheduled to premiere in August, it was announced today by Robert Greenblatt, Showtime President of Entertainment. Set to begin production in Los Angeles in June the new series stars and is executive produced by Golden Globe(R)-winning actor David Duchovny ("The X-Files"). Co-starring alongside Duchovny are Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show, Laurel Canyon), Madeleine Martin ("Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Hope & Faith"), Madeline Zima ("The Nanny," A Cinderella Story), and Evan Handler ("Sex and the City").
"This series furthers the SHOWTIME brand of high-quality, sophisticated, premium television and will be perfectly at home in the comedy space we've carved out with 'Weeds,'" said Greenblatt. "And I'm personally thrilled to be back in business with David Duchovny, with whom I worked on 'The X Files.' But anyone expecting Agent Mulder to resurface will be pleasantly surprised to see David create a character who is deeply flawed yet funny, complicated, and utterly human."

Sophisticated and unique, this comedy centers on novelist Hank Moody (Duchovny) who struggles to raise his 13-year-old daughter (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen (McElhone). His obsession with truth-telling and self-destructive behavior -- drinks, drugs and relationships -- are both destroying and enriching his career.
 

Duchovny is best known to millions of fans for his work as Agent Fox Mulder on the long-running cult classic television series, "The X Files," a role for which he earned a Golden Globe(R) Award and was nominated for an Emmy(R). He also received Emmy(R) nominations for guest appearances on "The Larry Sanders Show" and "Sex and the City." He is a three-time Golden Globe(R) and SAG Award nominee. On the big screen, Duchovny's film credits include last year's Trust the Man and Evolution, both opposite Julianne Moore; and Return to Me, co-starring Minnie Driver. Upcoming film projects include Jake Kasdan's The TV Set, and Things We Lost in the Fire opposite Halle Berry and Benicio del Toro.
 

The series was created and executive produced by Tom Kapinos ("Dawson's Creek"). Duchovny and Stephen Hopkins ("24"), who directed the pilot, will also serve as executive producers, with Melanie Greene serving as co-executive producer.

LOS ANGELES (March 12, 2007) -- Beginning on Saturday, March 31st  from  8 :00-11:00  pm  PT/ET, SHOWTIME will offer subscribers a royal  weekend March 31-April 1 by  spotlighting Jonathan Rhys Meyers in two extraordinary performances: one as King Henry VIII and the other as the King of Rock & Roll. As the kick off to the network's highly anticipated April 1st premiere of the new Original Series THE TUDORS, SHOWTIME will also feature the  premium TV debut of the Golden Globe®-winning and Emmy® Award-nominated miniseries Elvis.

Originally broadcast on CBS in 2005, Elvis received wide critical and audience acclaim, as well as Emmy® and Golden Globe® nods for Outstanding Miniseries. Rhys Meyers received the Golden Globe® for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television.

  The following day,   on Sunday, April 1st  from 10  :00-11:00  pm  PT/ET, SHOWTIME will premiere the sweeping, sexy new dramatic series THE TUDORS, starring Rhys Meyers as a young, virile King Henry VIII. The ten-episode series, filmed entirely on location in Ireland, spotlights the tumultuous years of Henry's early reign. Rhys Meyers stars alongside an international cast including Sam Neill (Cardinal Wolsey), Natalie Dormer (Anne Boleyn) and Maria Doyle Kennedy (Queen Katherine of Aragon) and Jeremy Northam (Sir Thomas More).

 Elvis, a three-hour  television event, is a fact-based drama with music about the life of Elvis Presley, showcasing Rhys Meyers' tour-de-force performance as the King of Rock ‘n Roll and one of the greatest and most popular entertainers of the 20th century. With the full cooperation and participation of the Elvis Presley Estate, his electrifying yet tumultuous story, from his humble beginnings to his meteoric rise to fame, is set against a backdrop of Presley's greatest hits including "If I Can Dream" and "That's All   Right (Mama)."     Elvis marks the first time that these master recordings were featured in a biographical film. Camryn Manheim, Randy Quaid and Rose McGowan costar.

- SHOWTIME'S resident iconoclasts, Penn & Teller, are once again ready to open fire on a range of taboo topics that society holds dear on the fifth season of the award-winning series PENN & TELLER: BULLSHIT!  The first of ten half-hour episodes will premiere on Thursday, March 22nd at 10 PM ET/PT. 

Starring master showmen Penn & Teller, the series delivers an aggressive, humorous exposé of controversial topics using the duo's trademark humor, knowledge of carnival tricks as well as hidden cameras and blatant confrontation.  Season five's premiere episode, "The Obesity Myth," tackles America's obesity epidemic and examines who really is orchestrating the war against weight.  Episode two is an in-depth look into the second largest corporation in the world, Wal-Mart.  Penn & Teller shine the spotlight on this mega-retailer, dissecting its history of savvy business strategy while uncovering the reasons why detractors are so against them.  Other show topics will target Satanic conspiracy theories, The Americans With Disabilities Act and the energy crisis.
