Travis Pastrana and Co-Driver Carolyn Bosley Make a

Great Team; Win the Rally Car Racing Super Special

Final

Dave Mirra is Unstoppable as He Wins Yet Another Medal

LOS ANGELES – It was an electrifying head-to-head race against X Games veteran

Pastrana and last year’s Rally Car Super Special champion Tanner Foust. Pastrana was

forced to make an eleventh hour swap in his co-driver, choosing the late Rally Car legend

Colin McRae’s former co-driver Bosley. The decision was ultimately fruitful as the two took the

final and seized the gold.

“It’s tough because it’s single round elimination. You have to really push. It’s all about going

for it,” Pastrana said about his winning rally.

Foust came out of the gate blazing and cleared the immense dirt jump with no problem, but

ran into trouble as he exited the arena and drove onto the tarmac, sideswiping his car

against the safety barriers. It was at that point Pastrana seized upon the moment to take the

lead. Foust finished the course successfully, but still behind Pastrana to take home the silver

medal.

“Now that we’ve had two years in this event we feel we can build a car that better suits this

event and come back even stronger,” Foust said.

Perhaps one of the most unexpected occurrences in the Super Special final was Mirra tying

for bronze with Ken Block. Both qualified into the bronze medal match, but both experienced

mechanical problems that kept both of them from driving in the match. A tie was declared

which subsequently awarded Mirra his 23rd X Games medal, a seemingly untouchable record

for most medals ever won at X Games.

“Just to be here to try and do this is great. Medaling after less than a year of doing this is

amazing,” Mirra said. Mirra began practicing and competing in rally in late 2007. This is his first

X Games Rally Car Racing appearance and his 13th X Games.

Venezuelan Rider Daniel Dhers Is Untouchable

Dher’s Wins Second X Games Gold Medal in First Ever BMX SuperPark Competition

LOS ANGELES- The action is swelling on the third day of X Games 14 as the BMX Freestyle

SuperPark Finalists took to the distinctive course. The field started with 10 riders and was

narrowed down to the top five in round one.

The top five moved on to the final, but it was apparent from the get-go that Dhers was going to be

the man to beat. Dhers showed up to the SuperPark this year already with an X Games gold

medal in his pocket from last year’s BMX Freestyle Park competition.

Each rider was given three 30 second runs, each one judged separately. The rider at the end of

the competition with the most points was the winner. After an overwhelmingly technical and

exciting performance out of Dhers, including a 540 bar spin, it was clear that he had swept the

competition.

“I get to go to sleep happy tonight,” Dhers said with a smile. “I’ve been wanting this gold medal for

the past year and now I have it. It’s as rewarding as winning the gold last year. It’s always

awesome to win a competition like the X Games.”

The astonishing medalist from the BMX Freestyle SuperPark final today was second place

finisher Diogo Canina, who until last week was not even sure if he was going to make the trip out

to the X Games from his home country of Brazil.

“I didn’t even think I was ready for this competition. Winning silver is like gold to me with a

competition like the X Games,” Canina proclaimed excitedly. “This past week here was the

greatest week of my BMX career.”

Perhaps having the most fun on the SuperPark course was third place finisher Rob Darden.

Darden utilized the entire course completing multiple transfers from the quarterpipe to the box set

and rallying through the bowl corners at mock speed.

“I always liked to go fast as a kid,” Darden grinned. “I felt like a kid in there. It was awesome.”

Chad Kagy and Dave Mirra Battle for the BMX Big Air

Gold

Kagy Goes Deep into his Bag of Tricks to Take First

LOS ANGELES- There was no holding back from the competitors in tonight’s

BMX Big Air final as the riders progressively stepped up the difficulty and height

after each run and pushed each other’s limits.

It all came down to the wire during the final of four runs. Mirra was holding the

top position with a score of 94.66 from a no-handed 360 backflip over the 70 foot

gap to a lofty, flair whip on the quarterpipe, but was knocked down to second

place when Kagy dropped into the ramp for his final run just moments later.

All eyes in the stadium turned to Kagy as he launched off the gap jump into a

back flip tail whip and then layed out a boosted flat whip on the quarterpipe,

earning a score of 96.00 and clenching the gold medal.

Kagy may have won the gold, but his respect went to Mirra. “Mirra surprised the

heck out of me. Good job, Dave. He was motivated to do this the right way and it

pushed me.”

Trailing in third place behind Kagy and Mirra was former two-time BMX Big Air

Champion Kevin Robinson who put up a good fight with a solid no-handed 360

into a no-handed 540 on the quarterpipe.

“I can go home happy with a bronze because I landed my new tricks in my

second run,” said previous champion, Robinson. “The double flair in my last run

didn’t work, but I’m so happy for Chad for his well deserved win tonight.”

Elissa Steamer Reclaims Her Skateboard Street Gold

Medalist Status

Steamer Overcomes Last Year’s Gold Medalist Marisa Dal Santo to Reclaim

First

LOS ANGELES- Steamer bumped X Games 13 gold medalist Dal Santo into

second place to win her fourth Gold Medal in Women’s Skateboard Street. Until

last year, Steamer had held the gold medal title for three years running.

“I’ve been living and breathing skating everyday the last couple years, not just

skating when I felt like it.” Steamer said, “Obviously it paid off.”

Obviously it did. Steamer’s grueling training showed as she attacked the

obstacles throughout the three heat final with relentless consistency. During the

second heat she stuck a lofty, kick flip over the China gap with less than three

seconds on the clock, bringing the crowd atop the LA Live Event Deck to an

uproar.

In the third and last heat of the final it was second place finisher Dal Santo and

bronze medalist Amy Caron’s time to shine as they both landed tough kick flips

over the double set of stairs and nose slides down the handrail.

“When I first saw skate videos there was only one girl in them and it was Elissa.”

Caron (who’s won her second consecutive bronze medal in street) said. “To be

on the podium with her and competing on her level is awesome.”

The girls of X Games 14 are just getting warmed up. Check back tomorrow for

the action at the Skateboard Women’s Vert Final and the Moto X Racing

Ricky Carmichael Wins Moto X Step Up

He Claimed It, and Then Made It Happen

LOS ANGELES- This past April at ESPN’s debut of the Moto X World

Championships Ricky Carmichael made a claim that he would come back to win

X Games Gold in the Moto X Step Up Final, and tonight he made that claim a

reality.

After nearly an hour of raising the bar, literally, Carmichael cleared 33 feet to

beat out Ronnie Renner who only cleared 32 feet. It was apparent that

Carmichael was more than thrilled about the win.

“It was an awesome night!” He said excitedly “It was an awesome crowd. The

atmosphere was amazing. Thank you! I hope everyone had a great time!”

Nearly 13,000 spectators packed the Staples Center seats tonight as Carmichael

took the Step Up title and wowed the crowd.

New Jersey’s Reynolds Continues His X Gold Streak in BMX Freestyle

Street Final

The Veteran Homan Faces Off Against the Rookie Reynolds

Los Angeles - X Games 14 kicked off this afternoon as two of New Jersey’s

finest BMX Street riders dominated the Event Deck at LA LIVE street course in

the BMX Freestyle Street Final. Rookie rider Garret Reynolds bested the veteran

Van Homan to win the debut BMX Street final.

Reynolds has been on an international X Games winning streak, topping the

podium at X Games Brazil 2008, X Games Dubai 2007 and X Games Mexico

2007.

“I just ride my bike, it’s what I love to do.” Reynolds shrugged humbly as he took

the podium. “This course is everything I like to ride and the energy of the crowd

was awesome.”

Reynolds threw out an unbeatable 180 bar-catch-bar down the double set of

stairs that helped him clinch the title. As usual, Homan came out blazing with

over-the-top combo set, including a manual to tire ride to bar spin combo.

“Garrett is a hard guy to beat. To get the silver I’m not disappointed,” said 28-

year-old Homan about taking silver behind fellow New Jersey native Reynolds,

who is 10 years his junior.

Homan added, “I’ve been around awhile, my first X Games was 10 years ago

and I’ve never won a medal until today. I’m so psyched.”

Sean Sexton respectfully took the bronze but not before giving Homan a run for

the silver throughout the final as he lofted into multiple impressive flares on the

quarterpipe and put together a truckdriver no-handed 360 over the gap section.

The BMX action continues Friday with the Freestyle Big Air Final starting at 5:45
