Rob (Omarion Grandberry) wants to rap in New York but his mother worries about his survival. When he is shot at, she shoos him off to Puerto Rico to live with his father Roberto (Giancarlo Esposito). Rob, who has no idea that his dad even existed, tries to make the best of what he thinks will be marking time until it is safe to return home.
†
His half-brother Javi (Victor Rasuk), a digital music wiz and online DJ, introduces Rob to Reggaeton. They visit the clubs of Puerto Rico
’s La Perla ghetto, and the music ignites Rob’s passion. Although their father, a former musician, isn’t supportive, Rob and Javi begin to make music together. Javi teaches Rob to integrate his rap into the faster rhythm of Reggaeton.†
They create a catchy track that Rob
’s budding love interest, C.C. (Zulay Henao), is convinced will become a hit. Meanwhile, C.C.’s jealous ex-boyfriend (Vico C) emerges as a threat to the boys and their family.C.C. introduces the undaunted duo to a hotshot producer (James McCaffrey) who signs them to a contract. Rob, Javi and C.C. set off for New York to find their futures while Rob must also settle a score in his past. What at first seems the perfect homecoming for Rob -- recording in a fancy studio, staying for free in posh digs -- begins to unravel.

As New York
’s famous Puerto Rican Day Parade approaches, all three attempt to piece back together their dreams and self-respect before it’s too late.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
†
†
†“It’s an upcoming cultural movement that is extending itself worldwide,” director Alejandro Chomski says. “It’s a natural to build a film around.”
†
The music emerges as a character that helps drive the story. A Sony BMG Film Production,
in association with Nuyorican Productions,
“Feel the Noise” grabs you and doesn’t let go. It’s a coming-of-consciousness tale about a young man who yearns to be a Reggaeton star, combining an irresistible soundtrack with a message to Latino and non-Latino audiences alike.†
“Integrity is priceless and fundamental when you want to accomplish your dream and express yourself as an artist,” Chomski says.
†
Rob, played by R&B sensation Omarion Grandberry, wavers at a crossroads. Stalked at home in New York by a merciless gang, he is handed a plane ticket by his mother to Puerto Rico -- a land with which he has more of a kinship than he could have imagined. He stays with his father (Giancarlo Esposito) whom he gave up for dead. Thanks to his half-brother Javi (Victor Rasuk), he falls in love with a music he never noticed. And he meets the alluring CC (Zulay Henao),
†finding her own way as a dancer. The three young leads infuse a fresh energy that the film and music demanded.
†

“They were very compelling and the camera loved them,“ Chomski says. “The three were different and had their own personalities in the film. They all won me over in their own way.”
For Omarion, now a solo singer after fronting the group B2K, the film has helped create harmony in his career.
“Acting is very important to me,”†he says. “It gives me the opportunity to not be characterized by one thing. When I think of the people I look up to – Sammy Davis Jr., the Rat Pack – they were entertainers. They sang, they acted, they did everything.”
For director Alejandro Chomski,
“Feel the Noise” offered a chance to excel under pressure. It is the first movie from the film division of Sony BMG Music Entertainment, which boasts a cadre of top Reggaeton artists. “I am positive it was the correct project to start with for them, and I am proud to have been part of it,” Chomski says. He also had to please a certain co-producer, the legendary Jennifer Lopez. “I imagine the only instruction was to make a good movie,” he says with a laugh.†
† Lopez, a Sony artist, submitted Albert Leon’s script through her Nuyorican Productions to Sony BMG Film producer Sofia Sondervan. As Sony BMG continued to invest in Reggaeton, Sondervan says the teaming of the music with a movie became inevitable. Lopez attaching her name to the project didn’t hurt either.
†
Although the film is mostly in English, Sondervan says she wanted a Spanish-speaking director because
“Feel the Noise”†was mostly shot in Puerto Rico (in addition to New York and Los Angeles). She saw the Argentina native Chomski’s previous film, the Spanish-language “Today and Tomorrow” (Hoy y Manana), at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival and was mesmerized by his tale of a young woman’s descent into prostitution.Chomski applies his narrative strength to “Feel the Noise,” crafting it into a celebration of the music and the optimism of youth. “I wanted to be faithful to Reggaeton’s own roots,” he says. “That’s why we used some actors who were actually the creators of the Reggaeton movement, like Voltio and Vico C.”
Voltio joins a dynamic soundtrack that includes Calle 13, Alexis y Fido, Tego Calderon, Wyclef Jean with Omarion (and Voltio), and the Fugees
’ Pras Michel and Cucu Diamantes.“Feel the Noise” shot over 29 days in June and July of 2006, concluding with the Puerto Rican Day Parade. It is a march that celebrates the island’s pride and one of its hottest exports, the sizzling fusion of rap, reggae and Latin dance rhythm known as Reggaeton.
The movie is aimed at both Latin and non-Latin audiences, the director says, not to mention the growing legion of Omarion fans. Chomski adds, “You can see it and have fun, even if you have no idea what Reggaeton is.”
†

The pulsating pace of
“Feel the Noise” infuses the scenes with a vibrancy rarely captured in music movies. And the story keeps it real to remind us that growing up is hard and chasing one’s calling might be even harder.“There are a lot of young people out there who get stuck, caught up in the wrong crowd but want to find themselves and conquer their goals,” Omarion says. “I didn’t have a strong father figure growing up either.”
†
Rob
’s return to New York with Javi and C.C. offers them huge opportunities. The boys get their recording deal and C.C. is on her way to becoming a professional dancer with the help of Rob and Javi‘s hotshot producer. But the trio discovers it’s a land of compromise that seduces more than delivers. It takes truly “going home” again for them to embrace their hopes.
A MOVEMENT IS BORN
It’s a delicious stew spiced from Latin American salsa and bomba and Caribbean
reggae and dance hall with a dash of American rap. The lyrics are often steamy
to match the hip-grinding beat (care to dance the perreo?), and it’s
packing clubs and iPods from San Juan to Harlem to Paris.
Reggaeton has its roots in Panama, where Spanish-language reggae was created in the 1970s by resident Jamaicans whose fathers worked on the Panama Canal. The hybrid made its way to Puerto Rico and merged with Spanish rap popularized by Vico C. in the 1980’s.
In 1991, the throbbing “Dem Bow” beat, based on a song of the same name by Shabba Ranks, became contemporary Reggaeton’s musical foundation.
Reggaeton made its home in Puerto Rico in the new millennium with a wave of
locally grown stars.
Now it’s grabbed American youth culture. Street mixes and barrio play have blasted Reggaeton into the mainstream. English-speaking voices are popping up on the tracks, and Reggaeton artists are muscling into the top 10 U.S. charts.
Reggaeton has arrived – and “Feel the Noise” is putting out the welcome mat.

ANDRES LEVIN (Music by) Born in Venezuela, Andres Levin spent his early years surrounded by music in his father’s recording studio. He started his own musical endeavors at the age of eight when he began playing guitar. Nine years later, Andres was awarded a full scholarship and left Caracas to study at The Berklee School of Music in Boston. A year later, Andres moved to New York City looking for more hands-on experience as a musician, recording engineer and producer. In New York, his time was divided between internships at top NYC studios and his composition studies at The Julliard School of Music and Brooklyn College.
After only a few weeks as an intern, Andres was hired by famed producer, Nile Rodgers as an in-house arranger and Synclavier programmer. With Nile, Andres collaborated as arranger, programmer and songwriter for Diana Ross, INXS, The B-52’s and many other high profile acts. In 1991, Andres started his own production company called 3rd Ear Music. He continued to write and produce tracks for artists such as Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, David Byrne, Mica Paris, Gladys Night and CC Peniston.
Having established himself within the R&B and Soul music community, Andres decided to devote more focus to the music of his heritage and began work with more Latin artists. Immediately embraced by the Latin music industry for his innovative sound, Levin’s production work quickly resulted in a number of GRAMMY nominated albums. During this time, Andres wrote and/or produced critically acclaimed records for both pioneering rock artists such as Aterciopelados, Los Amigos Invisibles, El Gran Silencio, Ely Guerra (and more), and famed Brazilian musicians such as Caetano Veloso, Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown and Arto Lindsay.
Levin’s work in these two Latin genres led to his contribution of tracks for the Red Hot Organization’s AIDS fundraising records Red Hot + Latin and Red Hot + Rio. The songs produced by Levin were so well received, that The Red Hot Organization asked Andres to take full production control of their next two album projects, Red Hot + Lisbon, and the Fela Kuti tribute album Red Hot + Riot (“#2 Album Of The Year”- New York Times and year-end TOP -10 lists of TIME, Rolling Stone & more). Over the course of these albums, Levin produced tracks for K.D. Lang, D’Angelo, Macy Gray, Meshell N’Degocello, Baaba Maal, Kellis, Common, and Dead Prez.
Following the
Red Hot records, Levin decided to develop his own artistic outlet, founded his new production company Fun Machine and formed the group Yerba Buena in which he acts as bandleader, writer & producer. With a wealth of critical praise to their credit, the Grammy-nominated group has become the leading ambassadors of the modern Latin Fusion sound of New York City. Combining Afro-Cuban, Afro-Beat, Hip-hop and many more elements, Yerba has developed a highly unique musical style that Interview Magazine called “…the future sound of Afro-Latin Urban America” and the New York Times describes as “a musicologist's dream… a joyful, ever-evolving, border-hopping groove… something serious gained for [popular music].”The continued success of both Levin’s production work and Yerba Buena has now brought Andres’ distinctive sound to the attention of Hollywood and he has begun to realize a long-desired career as a film composer. Recently, Levin has composed scores for “El Cantante” (the Jennifer Lopez/Marc Anthony biography of Latin Music legend Hector Lavoe), the upcoming Lions Gate films “Borderland” and “Ladron que roba Ladron. Songs by Levin have also been heard in recent years in popular TV shows and films like “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights,” “Cheaper By The Dozen,” “ER,” “Entourage,” “CSI Miami” and “Third Watch.” Simultaneously, Levin has continued his collaboration with a vast array of world renowned artists, producing and/or writing recent records for Eliane Elias, Orishas, Ana Torroja, Paulina Rubio, Rob Thomas, and Miguel Bose
